  1. Yes, I have been ruminating and feeling anxious about it. Rationally I think that if I did do something wrong I would have been arrested by now but the ocd is saying what if I just haven't been caught yet.
  2. A few years ago I was using a search engine to look for pictures to masturbate to and one of the results said something about girls and dogs. As soon as I saw the result I closed down the web browser and stopped searching. I forgot about it for a few years but recently I remembered it and have started having an obsessional thought that I might have done something illegal. I didn't go onto the website, I just saw the search result. Did I do anything illegal?
  3. Since starting to attending a self help group last week, my ocd symptoms seem to have gotten worse. I am having obsessive thoughts which had stopped for a while and I am also getting physical symptoms of anxiety. Has this happened to anyone else?
  4. Thanks for the replies. I agree with you gingerbreadgirl, Putting a label on these things puts them into a neat box but I think a lot of these things overlap.
  5. Is there a connection between Ocd and Generalised anxiety disorder? I have ocd and I also have some of the symptoms of Generalised anxiety disorder such as overthinking and worrying a lot. Is this common?
  6. Thanks, I have been trying to get help for a while, I was even told by my gp that there is not much help in the locality where I live. I suppose you just have to keep on trying different avenues.
  7. Hi, I went to my gp and I was initially referred to a cbt course for which there is a 6 month waiting list. I dropped out of the course early on, but then my ocd got worse and I tried to get back onto it with no success. Other than the course there is very little else available in the area where I live, my gp said there is a lack of psychologists.
  8. Hi, I've decided to stop the exposure. Its been three weeks now, so that's some progress but I don't I can do it any longer
  9. Hi, thanks for the reply. Yeah, well the anxiety did go down but its gone back up again because I'm doing the exposure. I started by going up to 1 week and then 2 1/2 weeks but now I am up to 3 weeks and its really tough. My aim was to get up to four weeks but I am thinking of stopping because of the anxiety. To be honest with you, I don't really know where to get help, I tried on the NHS but there isn't much where I live at the moment. I am going to try to contact a support group called Triumph over Phobia to see if I can get help that way. Thanks,
  10. H Hi, I am doing self directed erp for my ocd obsession about causing a flood in my flood. I have managed to get to 2 1/2 weeks of leaving a damp towel in my flat and my anxiety has gone down. The only problem is that I have started to feel muscle fatigue in my lower back as a result of the anxiety caused by the exposure. Can somebody advise me if it is ok to do this? as even though I am not obsessing about the as much as I was I wonder if the anxiety caused by doing the exposure could be damaging my health. I have also been trying to do cognitive work on the underlying belief as well. I have had to do self directed erp because there are not many services for ocd in the area where I live..
  11. How does somebody go about getting help for ocd? Where I live there is very little help for things like ocd on the NHS. As a result of this lack of help I have taken steps to help myself through the use of self help books and information on the internet. Even though I have experienced some progress through the use of self help methods, I still think I would benefit from talking to a specialist such as a psychologist. Is there any such help available or is my only option to pay for private treatment?
  12. Hi, Recently my checking compulsions have become more pronounced and I am spending a lot of time checking things like plugs before I leave my flat. The fear is that there will be a fire or a flood and that I will be held responsible for this. At the moment this fear has become quite restrictive and is preventing me from leaving my flat for any extended period of time just in case anything happens. Are there any strategies I could use to deal with this? Is there anybody here who has managed to control there checking?
  13. I know about the cognitive part of ocd, I've done a lot of research on it. I jus wondered if it was ok to do erp without a therapist or could it be detrimental?
  14. Hi I am in the uk and as other people will know, treatment on the nhs can take a while to come through. As a result of this wait, I have decided to try to do erp therapy on my own. I have found channels on youtube which give really good advice and guidance about ocd and after initial some initial teething problems have started to see some success. My question is, Is it ok to do erp therapy without the guidance of a therapist?
