  1. I don't want to get them into trouble, the course is beneficial. I'll find the letter and quote it... I don't want to give away my location, sorry.
  2. I went to see a therapist to get on the course... but I don't think he diagnosed me, I only told him what I was experiencing and a letter in the post said that it could be ocd... I know it is though. I struggled forever with it.
  3. I did today, but they said only in extreme cases? Or if done privately it costs a small fortune. I just asked here to get a second opinion...
  4. Hi, I've started a group therapy session and would like any info on getting diagnosed for OCD. Does it only happen if your OCD is severe? How much does it cost to have a diagnosis privately? Thanks, uhc
  5. I know the pamphlet you mean but I can't find it now (on my phone) do you know where the link is?
  6. Thanks Mumof2. I think I might take that along with me, just in case. Got to be extra cautious I suppose as it's not (from what I gather) widely understood?
  7. Thanks Polar Bear. I'm going to quiz the person first, maybe go a couple of times too to make sure they know what OCD is.
  8. So, I've decided to talk to someone about how I've been feeling for however many years it's been. I've put this off for so long in part because of how abhorrent the intrusive thoughts are. I'm not even sure I could admit them to someone else, without the strong urge to commit suicide. Sounds crazy, I know. Is it best to suss the therapist out first before you divulge your secrets? My one fear is that I blab to them what my thoughts are and they call the cops! Does anyone have any advice for the beginning stages of seeking help?
  9. When people have contamination OCD, do you get intrusive thoughts along with that, say of a violent or sexual nature too, or is it exclusively about germs / implications of that?
  10. Thanks so much for the replies. Are the thoughts visual? Like the dirt on your body, for example hands? Like just an image of dirt close up or something? My OCD thoughts are very visual, and impossible to suppress. (which is what we shouldn't be doing, as far as I understand.)
  11. I do not suffer from a contamination fear, but I was wondering whether people who have this still have the unwanted thoughts. And if so, are these thoughts about germs? Like if you were sitting on a bus and someone sat next to you with a cold, would images flash up about worst case scenarios of what could happen? And does cleaning compulsions come out of a need to suppress the thoughts about germs? I am just trying to understand how the different ocd fears work, and whether there is a similarity that runs between them all. Thank you in advance.
  12. Hi, my first post. I have some form of OCD that I have lived with since I was a young teenager. I think people call my version Pure OCD, my main battles are with intrusive thoughts, anxiety, etc. Jayjay89, I was just wondering whether people who have contamination OCD have instrusive thoughts as well?
