  1. Hi there. Do you have a bathroom or upstairs bin that he could discard those items into instead?
  2. I was just randomly thinking about what was said about using the letters OCD for jokey things and what positive phrases could be used in their place instead. I quite like the phrase, " Overcoming Challenges Daily. " ( not necessarily magically curing parts of the condition daily but hurdles like managing to get out of bed, etc )

I love that, that is a great way to reclaim from trivialisation. Can we use that?

Fab Enjay and I agree getting out of bed is a hurdle :)

  3. I am wondering if this is stemming from the negative reaction you got to your tomboy phase. I have always been a tomboy and am only recently wearing the occassional dress only for special occassions - the same goes for makeup. I grew up playing with action figures and also had a couple of carebears and ponies because I love animals, but I always hated dolls and the colour pink. My parents never gave a bad reaction to it though, just mentioned they think I'd look better with a little bit of makeup ( whereas I'd prefer for people to accept how I actually look ). So it has never been an issue for me and I have never felt that I was born into the wrong body. I have a few transgender friends so transgender people have my support, but it is totally normal for a girl to be tomboy, girly or a mixture of both.
  4. I haven't played WoW but I have played single player Final Fantasy games so I can see how you'd really hate to loose all of your leveling up progress. I'd encourage you to stick with your current character. Are you in a position to discuss with your teammates how you feel about this? Or is it a case of just playing with whoever happens to be online? It might be good to remember that there will be many other players who are also using these things as well so you have just as much right as anyone else to use them ( and they were purposely designed to be used by the creators ). There's no-one you really have to answer to as such for enjoying the extra little bits of the game. And I think other players would be too caught up in their own progress to be concerned about the way in which you play.
  5. Yes, facing OCD everyday is exhausting! I would still try appealing - perhaps you will end up with a better informed / more understanding person handling your paperwork.
  6. Hi Marko2020. Regarding PIP did you write much in the " further information " text box that is in each section after the "Yes, No, Sometimes " tick-boxes? I found that most of the tick-box questions weren't relevant to me because they were mostly about physical instead of mental health. For example I had to tick that I can lift my arms above my head and that I can walk up steps which wouldn't have given me a high enough point score to gain PIP, but then I wrote in as much detail as possible how feeling unable to touch most things in my home makes everyday tasks very difficult and time consuming. It gave them a much clearer picture than just relying on the tick box questions and I managed to get it at the enhanced instead of standard rate. I'd definitely try appealing. I wrote my information in draft on blank paper first because I had so much to say and had to use very tiny writing to fit it all in. My OCD also robbed my university graduation from me and I have spent half the year trying to get back on ESA because I had completed a month of temporary Christmas work that I could specifically just about manage which makes my doctor think I am fuly fit for work, so I can emphasize.
  7. Maybe the next time he says it you could phrase your reply as something like, "Oh, have you seen someone for it? / seen your GP for it?" ( in a casual tone, not a blunt or harsh tone ). Or maybe casually ask if they want to talk about it and say that you're willing to offer support to them if they would like. Then they'd be in a position where they know that you know about and take OCD seriously and would also have to confirm if they were just joking or not and then you could go from there without having sounded confrontational. I've had people say that kind of thing in front of me before and just thought how ironic it was that I was stood right there during what they were saying, but when it's just the odd one off I know that they're not properly talking about the actual condition, just something that reminds them a bit of it. If the same person kept saying it repeatedly though I could definitely see it getting grating because it might give others around them the impression that just being neat is genuinely what OCD is.
  8. Could you maybe start by setting a delay until you check? For example, try saying to yourself that you're not going to check until 5 minutes later and later gradually increase that delay. Sometimes when I do this I find that I forget to go back and do the compulsion that time.
  9. Wow, that's great Ashley. You have more stamina than I do, keep up the good work :original:
  10. Been having some trouble getting a sick note for my ESA from my doctor. I've been offered very occassional mail sorting shifts only when they need extra staff. It was my therapist who insisted I must change to ESA. I have too much difficulty functioning at home to job search properly but would just about manage the occassional shifts at that particular place, but the dr thinks I should be back on JSA. It took me a month and a half to write and post a letter asking the ESA to instruct the...

Dr in writing as she had requested. So am kinda glad that I at least got that done.

  11. I just wanted to pop by the forums to wish everyone a Merry Christmas xxx This is such a beautiful Christmas message. I was actually feeling pretty low at the moment and this really helped. I hope that everyone has as stress-free a day as possible
  12. I went to my face-to-face medical assessment for PIP the other day. I was really nervous about it since I had written about my condition in such embarrassing detail on the application form when I have always been too scared to go into detail about my problems before ( because I expect people to think they sound so silly ). I am also someone who over-thinks things and finds things to feel really awkward about after spending time with people sometimes, but I was SO surprised that I actually fel...

...felt reasonably comfortable speaking to the assessor. He was very friendly and chatty and we even ended up discussing a mutual interest in some computer game titles. Thankyou to the volunteer who encouraged me to apply for PIP =)

Thanks, filling out that form was one of the bravest things I've ever forced myself to do =)

  13. Oh I understand, I'm the same with constantly feeling the need to put clothes in the wash as well ^^
  14. My therapist was explaining to me at my last session how germs have a limited lifespan, so perhaps that little piece of information might help on some level. My contamination worries didn't instantly disappear of course but it helps a bit to have that information at the back of my mind.
