  1. Thanks polarbear, I finally got through to cahms this morning and they said ohh sorry we are short staffed, hopefully we'll be able to fax your sons prescription through today sometime!! ****** that I drove 40 miles and within minutes I had a prescription for risperidone in my hands . why couldn't the physciatrist do that a week ago is beyond me!!! Anyway I will take take your advice and start a new thread... thankyou PolarBear.
  2. My 15 year old suffers with extreme OCD it's heartbreaking watching him 24/7 ... he's also got ADHD and waiting to be tested for Autism . it's been a long road, they told me at the age of two he had the "Terrible Twos" and so it continued!!.. he also has very slow processing speed .. he has attended Cahms for the last 12 months for CBT and was put on methylphenidate ie Ritalin which has turned him into a monster I have been absolutely terrified of him for last few weeks, he's not the Lil boy he was once when you could restrain him..he's now 6ft and 14 and a half stone!! To cut a long story short they've stopped the methylphenidate and over a week ago decided to start him on respiridone (which was meant to start last Fri. .. prescription still wasn't available at our doctors today, no answer in cahms since last Fri. I will have to drive to cahms tomorrow to see what's going on) they say they will introduce sertraline also but trying one at a time first. problem is the therapy hasnt helped him, he seems to be worse!! he's so confused and angry ...they give him things to try but he's so slow bless him he doesn't remember . I'm at my wits end as to how to help him, he's paranoid and shouts and screams at me constantly! ! he's making me I'll also . .really don't no where to turn next.
  3. His phyciatrist hasn't put him on an ssri as yet he's going to add sertraline in but he didn't want to start both medications at the same time . .. fingers crossed the risperidone will help meanwhile!!!
  4. Thanks for your replies both . ..yes snowbear he was having therapy but that's stopped due to his phycologist leaving , he's on a waiting list for a new one!!!...he's seeing a physciatrist nurse tomorrow . . physciatrist has suggested I contact Taf ( don't no if anyone has heard of them, for support for me) does anyone recommend whom else I could contact? Thanks polar bear, hopefully it will work for him he's due to start resperidone on Friday after the methylphenidate leaves his system.. fingers crossed for his sake bless him aswell as mine!
  5. Hello everyone, I'm at my wits end ..my 15 yr old son has had a very hard time of late with his mental health . . he's been attending cahms for over a year and he's been diagnosed with ocd possible adhd and he's on the waiting list to be assessed for autism! His Physciatrist prescribed him methylphenidate few months back and ever since he's become a monster, he's paranoid . .angry.. blocks me controls me hardly been to school etc . I am at my wits end.. yesterday he was due to see his Physciatrist but he wouldn't come with me so I went without him..he's prescribed him resperidone now for his anxiety and anger. Has anyone else had an experiance with this medication?? i am worried this medication could make him worse again, I am very scared of him at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated . .thankyou.
  6. Hi, thanks for the reply ..he has been diagnosed with OCD but they think he has ADHD also that's why they've prescribed the ritalin... I'm just worrying the ritalin could make his ocd worse after reading that it could. I will speak to his Physciatrist and see what he says but was just wondering if anyone else's child with same issues were taking methylphenidate ie ritalin.
  7. Hi, my 15 yr old son suffers with OCD badly! ...he has been attending CAHMS now for many months and hasn't been diagnosed as yet but they think he has ADHD also... his Physciatrist recently prescribed him with methylphenidate 5mg twice daily, I have read that ocd suffers shouldn't be prescribed this particular medication as it could make his ocd worse, is anyone else on this medication who has ocd? He has terrible anger issues and day to day life is an awful struggle for him and us all as a family, over the years I've been on anti depressants myself as I've found it very difficult to cope with him.. I have come off them but I am starting to struggle to cope with him again! The first two weeks after starting his meds he was like a differant person for the first time in 13 yrs but now it's gone bck to way it's always been.. I can't say anything to him or even look at him without him flying off the handle!! I wish I could wave a magic wand and make him better.. I feel that we are not getting anyway with cahms although they are lovely people that we deal with, it's just very hard to deal with him .. problem is now his therapist has left yesterday and he has to go back on the waiting list for a new one!. any tips from any parents in the same situation would be greatly appreciated.
