bruces
I know this sounds silly but my life means nothing to me anymore I won't hurt myself but my life no longer has any value whatsoever Link to comment
PolarBear
And it won't so long as you keep posting these pointless posts and thinking the same old way. Link to comment
bruces
But how can you think differently I mean the facts are there at how badly my life has gone Link to comment
PolarBear
It's your decision to dwell on past perceived mistakes. You don't want to get better. It's easier just to wallow in self loathing. Link to comment
bruces
I don't believe self loathing is really a choice it just happens Link to comment
PolarBear
To change your circumstance you have to change how you think and how you behave. You could start by stopping the self critical talk. Link to comment
Caramoole
I don't believe self loathing is really a choice it just happens I disagree. Depression may make you feel this way but your behaviour demonstrates that you aren't doing much to help the situation and yes, gradually you can change that Link to comment
PolarBear
You can choose to stop it. You're not the first person to find himself at the bottom of the barrel. Some people have gotten out. It started with a choice not to live like that anymore. Link to comment
bruces
I've also probably done the worst thing possible I've let my parents down badly Link to comment
bruces
I try to stop I try not to hate myself I try to think positively but I can't maintain it Link to comment
bruces
Plus I have other physical ailments that add to the list for self loathing Link to comment
PolarBear
Letting your parents down is a big deal only to you. It's an excuse so you can stay in the pit of despair. Link to comment
bruces
It's a big deal to anyone it's pretty much the worst thing a child can do Link to comment
PolarBear
Only to you Bruce. You've convinced yourself that but that doesn't make it true. Link to comment
bruces
I appreciate change has to come from within but what if you havnt got what it takes Link to comment
bruces
I'm not so sure I genuinely do have a lot to be guilty about I've behaved quite poorly I've probably ruined my dads business Link to comment
PolarBear
Bambi, pats on the back and platitudes don't work either. Regardless the emotional problems underneath, the person has to put one foot in front of the other and keep trying to change or nothing will happen. They can have the best therapist money can buy but it's up to the sufferer to do the work. Cold, harsh reality. Link to comment
PolarBear
Bruce, you do have what it takes. You could take all the energy you expend putting yourself down and use it to rise out if the black hole. Link to comment
PolarBear
You expend a lot of energy convincing yourself that you're a bad person. You've done such a good job you believe it. Expend that energy elsewhere and you'll get a different result. Link to comment
bruces
By doing what though? I got up today and thought to myself it's a nice day I'll go to the seaside so I did and when I got there I felt just as unhappy and came home,I don't enjoy anything I feel miserable all the time Link to comment
PolarBear
You did a good thing then. That was a positive move. Look, how long did it take you to reach this state? I'm guessing years and years. It's going to take time for things to change for the positive. It's a huge challenge in front of you. But I can guarantee if you keep treating your illness the same old way then you'll remain stuck. bruces
How does it come to this? I was a happy child looking to get out in the world and work, then this is what you end up!! Link to comment
PolarBear
We should take this elsewhere, not derail bruces thread. And for the record. I suffered just like everyone else for nearly forty years. Been there, done that and wish I had met someone like I am now years ago. Link to comment
bruces
I'll do the course and try my hardest but I know it's pretty much unlikely I'll ever lead a normal life like my friends and family Link to comment
