wishing thoughts

Recommended Posts

Take the word 'wishing' out of your question and the answer is, yes lots of people have that.

Be careful thinking that just because you have an intrusive thought it means you desire it to be do. That's not OCD. We don't wish or desire harm on anyone. It can seem like it but in reality those thoughts are forced upon you and they have nothing to do with desire.

OCD is a very complicated disorder and it's very difficult for the 1000's of thoughts to be catolgued or explained in a book adequately, certainly not to include the infinite number of variations it can manifest as.

When we have a particular thought it's common to feel/think......"I must want to be like that....feel like that, really want it to happen, have a secret desire, be a bad, evil person, this can't be OCD" etc etc etc.

....and yet, we hate the thought, we don't want it, we try to push it away, we try to reason it out.  That is your yard stick, you have to accept that the way it's making you feel is the indicator that this IS OCD....even if we don't understand, even if we doubt it.  The follow on step from this is always rumination, the need to work it out, to understand, to self-loathe & berate, to then ask for reassurance....and this is what we have to work hard at stopping......and it is hard.....but for now, you have to trust that advice and resist the urge to work it out and accept it's part and parcel of the condition.
