jenkijunki
Hi Everyone. Have any of you every been to the specialist clinic in Taunton, Somerset? I came across it while look up ocd clinics. It's a 5 day intensive one-to-one clinic. http://ocdtreatmentcentre.com/ Link to comment
Ashley
Through my job I do get to hear stories, and based off those experiences if I ever needed help with my OCD I would never spend a single penny to be treated by this centre. My advice is simple, always double check the qualifications and credentials of a private therapist, the very minimum you need is accreditation with the BABCP (not to be confused with the BACP). If a website fails to list the qualifications and credentials of the therapist, then avoid at all costs. I can of course give you the names of some well qualified and clinically experienced OCD specialist therapists, although London/Kent based. There is also the national specialist treatment clinic via the NHS in Bristol which does offer intensive options too, I am happy to discuss referral options if needed. Ashley. Link to comment
carolinevtn
What a coincidence ! Actually I booked 20 hours for Skype sessions in this center because I didn't find a therapist in France. It's quite expensive, I already had 7 hours and I do not yet know if it's really helpful. Ashley, do you know this particular center or your opinion is about these kind of centers in general ? Edited October 17, 2016 by carolinevtn Link to comment

Please don't let my response put you off, hopefully it will be helpful, but be mindful of Prof Adam Radomsky who once told us that at 8 hours he will invite his patients to review if they feel the therapy is going anywhere. I would suggest a 7-10 session benchmark for reviewing. Link to comment
jenkijunki
Hi. Good to know. Caroline, are you doing the sessions weekly, or more regularly? Link to comment
jenkijunki
Hi Ashely. Thank you for your input. I'm working on my application to go to the centre in Bristol. I have an appointment with my GP on Monday to get my forms filled in. I have written my one page document about my OCD and treatments I have had. I'm preparing myself to be turned down my first try. Thanks! Jennifer Link to comment
carolinevtn
Hi Jennifer, I have sessions once a week but it has been 2 weeks since I had the last one. The therapist was not available Link to comment
jenkijunki
That doesn't sounds good. It's really hard to go that long between sessions. That is part of the problem I'm having... irregular appointments. Good luck to you. xx Link to comment

carolinevtn
I had to pay for the 20 hours in advance. I had no choice. Link to comment
Ashley
Ok, well fingers crossed they can help you. With the one session missed, I assume you will be offered that additionally at a later stage? Link to comment
carolinevtn
Yes fortunately the missed sessions are rescheduled ! Link to comment
