Dr Manaan Kar Ray - Advice please

Recommended Posts

Please could I ask those of you that are able to recognise a qualified specialist who can diagnose and treat, to confirm what you think of Dr Manaan Kar Ray http://www.manaan.co.uk.

My husband's work have offered to partly fund a Bupa family member, so I'm grappling the opportunity. Ashley kindly recommend Dr Forrester, she is an option but she can't guarantee when she will have a spare appointment. She also doesn't work with a waiting list, she's just asked me to keep contacting her monthly.

Many thanks

Don't know that person, and they don't appear to be BABCP accredited.  Of course that doesn't mean they can't help.  I am afraid OCD is so complex you don't want 'any' therapist, you need a good therapist that knows OCD, even if it means waiting.

If Liz is not free try http://www.themindworks.co.uk/ (Dr Lauren Callaghan) or if you're near Cambridge Dr Jan van Niekerk http://www.camclinic.net/

I have jumped straight on it Ashley and contacted both. Unfortunately Dr Niekerk is fully booked up with appointments but he did say to call him at the end of the year if I still need an appointment then. Dr Callaghan is on maternity leave. Is there anyone else you can recommend?

Dr Niekerk recommend speaking to Nicky Rattingan but she is now retired :(.

Trying to remain hopeful :)

Kind regards

Lauren Callaghan is one of the Directors of Mindworks.

They have other therapists. I saw Dr Hardeep Kaur, clinical psychologist, who was very good. Each of their therapists has a clear explanation of their experience under "who we are" on the website www themindworks.co.uk

I suggest you check out the website for details therefore.

So far as I can remember, for when I had treatment funded by BUPA,  they will insist that the the clinical psychogist's treatment is overseen by a qualified psychiatrist. Though as Hardeep holds a PHD maybe that might not be the case

Mindworks use I think psychiatrists from the Priory clinic for this. Should there be a delay in this angle, I used an excellent psychiatrist based in Paddington for this, when being treated by another practice, and can supply her details if necessary.

Mindworks does have other therapists as mentioned, but a therapists credentials are irrelevant if they don't have clinical experience in treating OCD.   I believe there is a difference between a therapist that knows all about OCD, and is experienced in treating OCD...  we need the latter.  So I will only recommend people I know are OCD experts (by that I define therapists who have worked clinically at the national treatment services like CADAT, ADRU etc).

Other options are..

Private (Not in any order)

•           Dr Anne Perry (Sevenoaks, Kent) - http://www.dranneperry.co.uk/  (psychiatrist but CBT trained)

•           Dr David Veale – The Priory Southgate, London   (psychiatrist but CBT trained)

•           Dr Blake Stobie  -  http://www.londonpsychologist.co.uk

•           Katie d’Ath  - http://www.katiedath.com/   (North London)

•           Dr Stephanie Fitzgerald   http://fitzgeraldpsychology.com/    (I think London now, not sure, was Berkshire)

•          Debby Cranston            (I am not sure if she works private, but this website page suggests so )

•          Dr Rob Willson      http://www.robwillson.com/therapy/

If I think of anyone else I will let you know.

This is the BABCP register to search for CBT therapists in your area...  http://www.cbtregisteruk.com/     but as mentioned above, how many of those will be experienced in treating OCD, I don't know you, you would need to contact each and gauge from their responses to your questions if they know enough to help.

Sorry to hijack the thread but do you know anyone in the South Wales area that is recommended for OCD/BDD Ashley?

I recognise two names on the BABCP list for Cardiff.  I would say the following certainly know about OCD, but I am not sure on their clinical experience for treating OCD, so I can't recommend them but I know they 'know' about OCD enough for me to trust them ands giving them a call to see if I could work with them if it was me.

Dr. Louise Waddington

Ruth Millauer

Go to http://www.cbtregisteruk.com/   in the right hand side select Cardiff from the list and it will display lots of names, those two being on there. You can click their contact info.

Hi Ashley,

im just wondering how you know of Ruth millauer? As she seems to be only recently qualified.

Over the years some trainees like to learn about OCD to make them a better therapist so will attend our events, conferences, webinars etc. Some of those on the list are such people, and sometimes those same trainees will know more about OCD than some therapists who qualified 20 years ago!    Remember, the BABCP accreditation is only the date they chose to ask to be accredited with the BABCP, not their therapy qualification date.
