Theory A theory B.

Recommended Posts

I'm having cbt and I have some homework I'm struggling with.

Anyone aware of theory and vs theory b?

I've managed to write down my theory a, which is my ocd telling me that I'm an evil person because I have bad thoughts and think I'm going to act on them.

In theory b, I have written that this is just a worry issue and I just think I'm a bad person and I'm afraid my thoughts are real.

Next, under the heading,

What are the implications?  What do I need to do if this is true?

Theory a

I need to stay away from vulnerable people in case I cause them harm.

I'm not sure what to put for theory b.

I think I'm over thinking the question but I can't seem to answer the question. I'm usually pretty good at this type of thing.

And advice please?

I would put something like;

Theory B

I'm worried that I'm a bad person because I have intrusive thoughts that scare me

What do I need to do if this is true?

Learn that everyone gets intrusive thoughts and that it doesn't make me a bad person. Act like my problem is one of worry and stop avoiding things, live life to the full.

Does that answer your question? :)

Would theory b be some form of exposure exercise to counteract the thoughts from theory a?

Hi rox, I'm pretty sure I have to write down that it's just a worry issue, but I just can't seem to put it in words.

Hi gemma

Thanks for that, I just couldn't get the words out for some reason.

That answers my question perfectly
