Any good ERP?

Recommended Posts

Hi, Just wanted to know if anybody knew of,or had experience of any good ERP in the south of England? Anywhere near Southampton/winchester area? I'm really struggling day to day now. I no longer trust myself and I've already had 2 lots of CBT. I'm wondering if I'll ever get to a stage where I can just relax again.? I want to be myself again.

Thanks

I'm just really, really struggling. I've been on sertraline again now for 4 weeks and I don't really seem any better. I have been on it before and I was able to manage ok I suppose. This episode is just worse than I've ever known it. I can't stand being on my own,for the fear that I'll behave inappropriately. Even in the house I'm now scared that I'm going to use any of the computers to search bad things up. I used to feel safe at home, but now I'm almost worse.

Hi Ashley, I've just found that after over 20 years my OCD is actually getting worse. I've heard from many people that ERP is really effective.

I would suggest two things.

1. Those that suggested ERP is effective are slightly off the mark.

2. Good CBT should include behavioural exercises (i.e. ERP)

ERP is the north American approach, but I truly believe it's only part of the solution to treat OCD.   You can do all the exposure in the world, if the misinterpretation/meaning of the thought process (obsession) is not addressed then the ERP will unlikely stick long term.  That's why we remain convinced that 'quality' CBT remains the treatment of choice for OCD.

It's not unusual for many people to have poor quality CBT and get worse.  I don't know how good your therapists were, but it could be the next step for you may be to seek access to one of the specialist OCD treatment clinics (Bath and London your nearest).

Just some thoughts to ponder :)
