margarita!
My OCD has been flaring up today. Really badly. I have a contamination theme and today there appeared several triggers out of nowhere. I'm very stressed at the moment. Trying to keep compulsions at a minimum. I'm so confused, sad and stressed. daja
Think of something else. Distract yourself. Link to comment
PolarBear
You are likely feeling that way because you are giving a lot of attention to the thoughts, even if that's all mental in nature. Do try to get involved in something else. Whenthoughts of contamination show up, think whatever! and continue doing what you were doing. Refuse to get into mind debates. Link to comment

taurean
Triggers are just the means to the OCD end, they make us aware of the erroneous, exaggerated or revulsion OCD core belief. To a non-sufferer, or non-contamination OCD sufferer, they mean nothing, they are mental chaff. Your aim will be working towards, in therapy, taking that view. On that journey, you can initially decide to take the high ground. Think "Oh that's just my silly obsession" then, as Daja suggests, refocus away to a beneficial and involved distraction. With OCD life is a trigger. They're not the problem. Link to comment
