Guest sid
Anyone got any techniques on controlling there thoughts, or taking your mind of obsessive thoughts and being able to relax? Link to comment
Northern Star
Hi Sid, Have you tried practising mindfulness? I find it can be useful as it grounds me in the moment and makes me focus on what's around me rather than what's going on in my head. I don't think it's encouraged to try to control OCD thoughts, but CBT can help you learn how to deal with them. I also like a kind of progressive relaxation thing I learnt (I'm not sure what it's called!) which involves laying down and relaxing each muscle group; I've found previously that can almost send me off to sleep, certainly has helped me feel more relaxed. Benster
Maybe when it's getting bad, think "OH LOOK IT'S POCD TRYING TO SCARE ME INTO BEING SOMETHING IM NOT". That helped my hocd. Link to comment
Guest poseidon
I just tell myself that it really isn't me. My thoughts are of someone who would want that, but that person isn't me. The other person is the OCD, and because it's in me, sometimes it's hard to separate the both of us, but at the end of the day I am me (harmless) and only sharing a hellish existence with a disease, entity, etc that wants to get so close inside my brain that it makes me believe I am something I am not and never will be.
