Is this OCD?

Hi everyone, I have joined this forum because I think I might have a form of ocd but I'm not sure if I do or not. Basically I have a real issue with tidiness. Things have to be lined up, in order, in set places if you know what I mean. I am always having big clear outs because I can't stand to have junk in the house or have good storage place unnecessarily used for things I think are worthless or pointless. It started off as me being a bit of a nag to my husband about him being untidy but I feel like it is spiralling out of control. If I get up in the morning and he has left washing up/ clothes downstairs/ anything not in its rightful place, then I get really angry and stressed and feel like I'm going to explode. This is causing huge problems in my marriage and my days are consumed with thoughts about how my home isn't as spotless and clutter free as it should be. Is this OCD or is it just me being picky? The reason I have finally decided to come on here and post is because I just had a massive breakdown about it and was sobbing to the point where I couldn't stop myself. I just want these feelings to go away.

I think it's classed as OCD if the obsessions/compulsions take up an hour or more of your day or if it interferes with your life in a negative way or if it causes distress. It's obviously bothering you so you could talk to your doctor and ask to be referred for CBT. Or, as Roseanne said, have a go at tackling it yourself by working through a book.

Thanks for the replies. I think I might try a book and failing that I will see the doctor. Do you have any book recommendations?

There's a book called 'Break Free From OCD' advertised on this website. It's good. Have a look in your local library for it, my library's got several copies. I'd say to work through it thoroughly and slowly and make sure you do the recommended activities.
