thought.amnesty
Hello all, I have found it really useful to do self love exercises recently. Ones found online, CBT ones. I had a spike/obsession the other day when someone told me that some cultures (parts of Buddhism etc) do not believe in a sense of self. Performing my self love exercises have been really helpful to build up my self esteem but I'm worried if I do them now I will be performing compulsions to combat fear of what i heard. Will it be giving into OCD to not perform an exercise I have found so healthy or will it be performing compulsions to do so?? Link to comment
PolarBear
If it's a matter that you do the exercises in response to intrusive thoughts, then they are a compulsion and they need to stop. If on the other hand you are doing them as a planned thing to do once or twice a day at set times, then there should be no problem. Link to comment
thought.amnesty
Thank you for that distinction that is very useful. Polarbear you spoke once about sitting/lying down for a set time and letting your major themes just come and go without performing compulsions. That appeals to me, I can see why that would be useful. How long and often would you say it was best to do that? Link to comment
PolarBear
I don't believe it was me who suggested sitting or lying down and letting themes come and go. Must have been someone else. Link to comment
