  1. Hi Ash and all I was only talking about the charity yesterday whilst doing one of my regular talks for the institute of health visitors , covering paternal ocd . The reason I mentioned it was because in November 2004 the charity were there for myself and family when I hit rock bottom with horrendous sexual/harm type thoughts (undiagnosed) and you helped me in many ways , especially with getting a diagnosis and encouragement during the road to recovery, of which I have remained ocd free for almost 20 years . I’m glad the charity is here still , helping many people along the way . Keep up the great work to all that are involved In making the charity work so well
  2. hope you’re keeping well thought I’d pop in and offer some wise words of advice
  3. If constantly reminding oneself it’s not me it’s the ocd does or can become a compulsion in itself ..
  4. Hi Just A What advice would you offer to someone asking the same question, which is driven by ocd
  5. As you can see I’m still useless at quotes @Caramoole hope all is good with you ?
  6. Important though that when we are moving forwards that , for “some” treating the grief of lost years isn’t forgotten as that may or could impede on the cbt. If that makes sense .. .. Important not to forget the regrets , but important to that with good help it does get better ... And yep if only we knew .. but ... we can look at a future where we can achieve goals ... I once wanted to be an xyz but ocd prevented me from .. well we can still do that ... we really can. ..it’s never to late .. Maybe more therapists and access to decent treatments will make that possible to
  7. Anyway sorry to see you’ve all endured such woeful experiences. I’m sure it will get sorted out , hopefully ASAP.
  8. Pity that we live in a world that a) it still happens b) the huge implications that it can have on person , and persons involved much to do still , on this aspect , maybe
  9. Never had a trigger personally. Just got worse , over the years before eventually reaching out for help (2004) after reaching crisis point .I’d call it just unlucky. Once diagnosed , jumped into challenging the ocd using cbt /Erp . 9 months hard work , now 13 years free of any symptoms that would fit into the criteria of ocd. Legend
  10. Hi All. After my diagnosis, after 20 years of ocd , I used the four steps as a foundation, it taught me basics of how to change the way I had to respond to the thoughts , acknowledgment of what you were dealing was ocd , anticipation that it will happen , and then did the refocus work , when I felt an urge to engage with the uncertainty. What was vital to my recovery , from that point , was implementing cbt / erp . Some of this involved doing things I avoided , sitting next to a park , going to children’s party’s , deliberate exposures built over a hierarchy. I also agreed with the thoughts, encouraged them , bring it on . I also did imaginal exposures too, deliberately thinking it ... The hard work you put into therapy reaps rewards legend
