Mobile Data Does Not Allow Me To Sign Into The Forums

Recommended Posts

I still have this problem.

if I activate wifi from my own BT hub if at home or throught a BTwifi hotspot or another wifi supplier, not problem I can log in to the forums as a member and make posts.

If I activate the data on my android phone it will let me use the internet, but it will not let me sign in to the forum.I can access the forums to read posts, but I cannot sign in as a forum member on my account. .I don't seem to have a save data switch to switch off like Gemma has which fixed it for her. My phone is a Huwaei android whcih is about 3 years ol now and not on the latest android system therefore.

I spent a long time on the phone to my network supplier today, and we even carried out a factory reset, but it did not fix this problem. They say the forum website is seeing me as a threat, and is not allowing me to connect with the server.

Any ideas Ashley and team as to how we can fix this?

I am not sure Roy, but I think what the person told you makes no sense, I think you have been fobbed off there Roy.

If the server the forum sits on saw you to be a threat it would block access to the site, so you would not get the forum at all. If you get the forum and can not log in then it suggests it's some kind of cookie issue on the device you are using.

I can test on my Android phone but I need to know which browser you use, the URL you are trying to access (i.e. just www.ocdforums.org)?, which version of the software you are using, (i.e. the full version with OCD-UK colours or the forum mobile version with no skin colours).

Browser is Google, version is the mobile version, URL is the ocdforums.org.

But via wifi no problem, via data won't allow a sign-in.

On settings I have accept cookies and remember form data checked.

Just tested on mine with Wi-Fi switched off using Chrome (I assume you mean Chrome when you say Google) and it logged me in fine. Try scrolling to the bottom of the page, and click 'full version' and the PC version will load up on the mobile, try logging in that way. On the assumption that does not work either I am fairly sure its a problem with the handset of some kind.

Ok thanks - didn't work. :weep:

I just have a feeling that there is something the phone is offering up - or not offering up - on data that the server is rejecting, so probably something somewher to do with the settings on data in the phone - as with Gemma's Android.

I can of course use it on wifi, but those hotspots are very very small - so data is the best way to access from out and about.

I tried my local phone and laptop repair shop a few days ago, they couldn't sort it either.

a website I found said if data worked, but on some sites wouldn't fiully function, it should do after a factory reset - but that didn't work.

Bemused battled and bewildered, i think I will retire hurt ! :headslap:

what happens when you try and log on, Roy?

can you log on if you connect your phone to the WiFi?

With data on, I can use the internet, google, BBC sport, weather.I can access the forums as a visitor on mobile format. I can read topics and posts but when I set up the sign-in screen and hit the button to sign in it won't sign in. so i can't post.

I have had the phone over 3 years and data was worming perffectly until I think several weeks ago.

It works perectly on wifi on this laptop and on the mobile. BUt on the mobile, wifi hotspots are very localised, so this is very restricitve in use capability. .

so you can log on using your phone when it's connected to WiFi, just not mobile data?

When you try to log on and it fails, does it come up with an error message?

To both the answer is yes .

It takes a while to come up with the error message - i am just waiting again for it to appear - the phone is beside the laptop.

here it is - "Web page not available Data connectivity problem. The server failed to communicate. Try again later."

No.How would I change it?

Meantime, after the factory reset, I had to redownlad google play and it is now letting me update (from the factory reset) 8 apps. At the moment i am updating google.

That update has now just finished.

It is demanding I first set up a payment option, before I can download any apps, even any free ones. . I just thought it would debit my network provider.

i'll take a rain check on that right now, made a lot of progress thanks and I am hot and tired so I'll have a go at that tomorrow.

Well I pressed on and have successfully installed the opera mini web browser.

I will give it a try tomorrow to see if it solves my problem.

Thank you for your guidance gingerbreadgirl :original:

Hi taurean it may be your apn settings are wrong. You can get your service provider to send you them to download or you can type them in yourself.

Other than that I am not sure. Will let you know if I think of anything else.

Well the good news folks is by switching to the Opera mini browser, I am able to sign in to the forum via the data service.

So thank you Ashley Gemma and, of course, our wonderful ginger cat for listening to me, helping eliminate possibilities and work together towards a solution.

Now I hope it continues to work; I had a "false dawn" before when I took the SIM card out then rebooted the phone.

I am just wondering if I should ask the network to cancel my data. Then start again and see if that "fixes" it?

I wouldn't, it wont change anything. It will be some kind of setting somewhere that's holding it up. Try a different browser on the phone, try downloading Firefox on the phone and try with that.

Ignore me, I just read the second page, you already did lol. To be honest I don't like Google's browser, it causes all sorts of bugs on PCs and mobiles. In fact in general Google is going backwards, Google maps for example is now so complicated it is slow, buggy and don't get me started on the use of orange for motorways!
