Hi

I've had obsessive worrying & intrusive thoughts/images for many years. The worrying is about any interaction I have could upset someone or make them upset with me, I also have intrusive images which are usually violent and very graphic in nature all directed towards myself. These consist of seeing a part of my body opened with a knife or other instrument as well as other forms of self harm. May i point out I don't self harm and never intend to but the images are there usually when im stressed or when an embarrassing memory comes into my head so the graphic one will appear to counteract it. Also when stressed or certain thoughts come into my head I will say phrases in third party or say several obscene words usually with some form of rhyme. This is all done in my head as I never ever swear.

I had been on 20 escitalopram which helped with the anxiety but did not get rid of the intrusive thoughts/images. I started fluoxetine just over 2 weeks ago. I went from the 20 escitalopram to 60 fluoxetine over a 4 day period. The first few days were fine but the last 2 week have been hell with thoughts much worse than they ever wear both in content and frequency. Is anyone else been through this when changing meds.

Hi PJ. Welcome to the forum. We've had reports from others that they've had a tough time when changing meds. Even just starting a med for the first time can make the thoughts worse in the beginning. Two weeks is not long enough to get the full benefit of the drug. it needs to build up yet. My advice is try to stick with it for a while longer and see how things are coming along. In the mean time, know that it is probably the change in meds that is temporarily making things worse.
