Hi im new here and i cant believe i havent come across this site before now as ive been researching ocd for about 5 years or more aince i was diagnosed by my doc with it!

Ive basically always had verocious scary intrusive thoughts about my health and my ocd goes into overdrive everytime i get them! It was so bad i realised i had to go to doc in 2009 and he put me on tabs which for the record made me feel sooo much better after a long time and i noticed after a while on the tabs that my compulsions to try and rule out the thoughts i was having were soo much less overpowering and i was able to not get stuck on thoughts pretty much not at all! Iv been off the tabs almost a year and ive felt myself slipping back into my old ways with scary thoughts about health and its becoming more and more overpowering and stuck in my mind. I really dont want to go back on tablets but i might have to as my ocd is starting to takeover again as iv found myself touching wood about 100times a day more than i ever would of on the meds.

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately that is the way it usually works. You take meds, you do well on them, you come off them, you start doing poorly. You might want to think about going back on medications, especially since you did well on them before.

There is always CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), which I suggest you look into regardless whether you take medication or not. It is the gold standard in OCD treatment and can help you to deal with your obsessive thoughts.

I reccomend you the books "Coping with health anxiety" or "Overcoming health anxiety". You will find them on pdf in google if you tape these entries. I am reading them now, as I am totally stuck into the obsession of having a brain tumour only for visual disturbances such as flashing spots I see sometimes. These books reflect on our problem and you'll feel pretty identified with them if you suffer from hypocondria.

If you have depression as well, as it is my case, I strongly recommend meditation and yoga practice.

Hope I have helped you! :original:

Thank you both very much for your replies, didnt expect to get a response so quick!

I know ive read alot about CBT being effective and i have to admit i am guilty of not trying it hard enough as iv struggled to overcome my compulsions!

In fact i can barely put down in words on here now the scary thoughts i get because they trigger so much anxiety and i spend ages trying to cancel them out in my head.

Im going to look up those pdfs on google now so thank you for that and im going to read up on dr schwarz again too!
