Guest Jarhead
Hello, my name is Joe. I have ocd and ptsd. My ocd is driven by thoughts of dab stuff happening to me or my family. I mostly fear death. I think i have ptsd from being in Iraq and the fire service. I have seen a lot of death and injured people. So when i have ocd, i feel like if i dont do things a certain way, something bad might happen. I dont know how to overcome this problem. Link to comment
PolarBear
Hi Joe. Welcome to the forum. It is not uncommon for people to have OCD comorbid (along with) another disorder such as PTSD. It's important that you get help for both maladies so they can both be effectively treated. I'm not up on the best treatment for PTSD but I would think you should be able to get some help for that since you are a veteran, no? As for OCD, there are medications available that can assist you with the anxiety you feel. They can lower your overall anxiety level and make working on a proper therapeutic approach much easier. The standard therapy for OCD is CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). You would need to find a therapist used to working with people with OCD. Again, being a vet, I would think you could access that type of therapy through veterans channels. Link to comment
legalseagull
Welcome. As PolarBear said, I think you'd benefit from professional help. CBT can definitely help with OCD. I don't know how PTSD is treated but I know it can be. Don't suffer alone with these conditions. After all you've been through you deserve somebody to help you. Link to comment
