Mrs brown
So today I got a puppy and he's the cutest ever he's a little pest at the minute but he's really funny. Anyway I have a fear of vomiting and I actually said if he makes me sick (associating animals with illness) I don't want him. So guess what.... I feel sick!! Do u think there's a possibility that the anxiety is making me feel sick rather than I actually feel sick if that makes sense? I spend a lot of my life thinking about being sick therefore ending up feeling sick or having a sore tummy. Link to comment
Guest liss6794
I often feel 'ill' and I never knew that I really wasn't ill, I was just convincing myself that I wasn't well. It was basically all in my head. I later then spoke to my therapist and he said that its a symptom of anxiety - thinking that you are ill by feeling sick or faint but actually its psychological not physical. My advice is to reassure yourself that its not real, you're not really feeling sick and that it will pass. Self soothing will help eventually and you will stop or reduce the amount of times you feel sick. Hope this helps Link to comment
Guest HeadAboveWater
Congrats on your new puppy! Funny enough, I also got a new puppy not too long ago! He has also triggered some of my OCD thoughts. Although, the thoughts are very different from yours - my therapist said that any change can trigger stress and cause OCD to increase and sometimes fixate on those changes. I have OCD sexual obsessions and they have even clung to him. I don't typically have harm obsessions but with him I have had a huge fear of abusing him even though my personality is extremely loving and caring. It hurts so much to have these thoughts. I know our thoughts related to our new puppies are different but somehow they cling to the same fear of not being able to be who we are and have the life we want with these beautiful creatures. The OCD always tries to ruin it with our worst fears. I wish you a positive mind and a hopeful spirit for things to change and for these fears to dissipate. Good luck, girl! Link to comment
taurean
Yes stick it out don't let OCD spoil a beneficial thing for you. I've spoken of my love and affection for animals who visit my garden and Spotty and Dopply the cats, Robbie Robin Woody the woodpigeon Foxy the fox and Bruhnhilde the squirrel all enchant me and help lift my mood, although foxy is more of a pest of course though he is still wildlife. We even have our own Jay jsyhay! Edited November 25, 2014 by taurean Link to comment
Mrs brown
Thankyou all for your replies I managed to be ok last night and just try to enjoy the new arrival. This morning however I had a panic attack and I can't seem to calm down I just want to lie in my bed all day. I don't even know what I'm panicking about that's the thing? I know my anxiety doesn't work well with change so it's maybe that? Link to comment
