Go on......fed up of the lot of you ;)

Seriously, just touched on it in Claires thread about not spending as much time here.

I think everyone would benefit by joining another "Non-Health" Forum. One that has topical discussions, swaps tips, talks fashion or cookery or train spotting or whatever floats your boat.

Be a non-OCD person whilst you're there, save that for here. Make friends, have a laugh or a heated debate but form a new habit as well.

The forum here is fantastic, some good friendships are forged, a lot is learned and a huge amount of support offered.....but everyone needs to spend time in a place that isn't wall to wall OCD.

Who's up for it?

Caramoole :)

Had great night's sleep just responded where I was helping on a couple of threads and I am going out for breakfast then I will leave the support forum alone for a while and get doing my detachment defusion and distraction programme!

I definitely feel worse when I spend too much time on forums, I think they're great if you use them correctly, but there's no doubt at times I use them to try finding a way of a flashlight moment that will switch off my anxiety or look for someone just like me which isn't good. Well done for telling me off caramoole :)

I did get a surprise at the title but you are completely right. I belong to other non-OCD forums. There is a great social website for those that are up to getting out and about and meeting new people. It is also an international thing with groups round the world. The website is Meetup.com. I have met some interesting people in the past and hope to get out and about more in the future.

Totally see where you're coming from. In my case I think it's more a case of getting off the internet full stop.

I totally agree. I'm never more at peace in my mind than when I'm on the beach, walking on The Downs or in the woods. It's nice to be out of reach, with no phone signal, just in the moment.

I listened, and I have been working on writing carols.

For those that are members of OCD-UK, you can see the first two drafts of my new carols in the members-only area of the forum, under Central Perk.

For those of you who aren't members, the members only area is another good way of finding peace and tranquillity and closeness to others plus some great games, away from OCD thinking - and joining provides the charity with more help to help others.

I have never ever tried to write a carol before - the music part I'll be working on a bit later. It is ever, ever so exciting and distracting!!!!!!

:whistling: :partytime: :book: :flowers:

The world now does have a new carol - a world exclusive today for OCD-Uk members forum - I've been working most of the day on this.

i have called it "The Woodland Carol" and whilst the notation for the melody is now in draft, there are parts that don't quite hit the spot yet, so I will continue to work with them.

My keyboard is basically a small synthesiser too - I have experimented with instrumentation using accordion - sounds sensational for "Mary's Boy Child" - but maybe pipe organ is best for a more traditional carol.

For the accompaniment bossa nova is quite good, though slow pop may also suit - still experimenting.

The key signature is quite basic; we are in the key of C with one key change part way for dynamics and to hook the audience and co-singers - knock em flat!

In the rest periods from this intense activity - prescribed in any case by my therapist as well as Caramoole - I had some great fun playing, as well as Mary's Boy Child ,my wife and I's favourite song "Memory"from Cats, and "I don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar. And now the keyboard is out, I'll work out the chord accompaniment to "Music Of The Night" from Phantom of the Opera. I have the sheet music but it doesn't tell me the chords to play - but I have the knowledge to work them out.

It's like learning a language or how to drive the car - once you have learned those skills, they can quickly be picked up again.

So rejoice with me, The Woodland Carol is born today, in a world exclusive on our members forum!!!!!

:wine: :xmas_rolleyes:

If you want to try a new hobby, and learn how to play the keyboard, go to a music shop and you can buy the training packs that can get you up and running.A basic 3 octave keyboard is much cheaper than a laptop, and you won't become addicted to websites and online forums!

I am not allowed any more forums, if I wanted them. Mrs Roy restricts - or tries to - my computer time to 2 hours per day - unless I am watching catch-up TV or listening to internet radio.

I have enjoyed a couple of discussions on the members only part of this forum. I have enjoyed thinking and talking about real topics (as well as the x factor and so on) but I don't know how I would feel discussing things with people I don't know - granted I don't know Philli, gingerbread girl and Tez who were mostly the ones taking part but I feel 'safe' with them and within our forum.

Maybe a discussion thread on the main forum where there would be more people to engage would be good? Occasionally topics have been discussed on the main OCD forum - but it might be nice to have a place for other discussions with the wider audience? Just a thought.

I've dabbled on twitter but find it a bit tricky to follow threads......also I got 'trolled' by another OCD sufferer (!) when i made what I thought a valid comment ref OCD!! TBH it amused me more than annoyed or worried me as I couldn't see why I got called a moron!! Hey-ho!

A few years ago I went back to piano lessons 30 odd years after my childhood lessons. I loved it. Took a couple of exams, played in a few concerts (OCD was bad at the time so there was quite a bit of exposure ref touching the piano keys at the concerts) Loved it - practised every day and then out of the blue, lost interest and didn't touch it again - eventually selling the piano. ....but for a time it was a great interest.
