Hi everyone,

I havent ever written in a forum before to speak about my ocd and I feel quite anxious doing so. I have been suffering with ocd for many years. The last few years have been the most difficult and up till now it is even worse. At first it started with counting things, looking at things a certain amount of times and repeating things in my head until Im sure its enough. No matter how much it stresses me I feel I have no choice but to count and say things in my head. I wash my hands constantly after everything I touch as Im so scared that I will catch something. Recently I change my bed sheets everyday as I think theyre dirty when theyre not. I constantly wash my clothes even though I have not worn them. If something drops on the floor it has to go in the wash. If my hair touches something which I think is dirty I have to wash my hair. There are so many things Ive lost count. Iam truly fed up and I know Im not the only one like this however, i

Dont have anyone who i can express this to, and thats the reason i joined. If anyone has any advice that would be great!

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing. You are certainly not alone in the things you've shared here and I'm sure others will come along to encourage you. Have you actually been diagnosed with OCD? Was there any treatment offered? If not, then I'd really recommend you seeing your GP. If it is negatively affecting your daily life then it's important to seek help and support. I realise it is not easy to go and see a doctor but it's one step in the direction of getting better. They should then refer you for diagnosis and therapy (CBT).

Are there any friends or family you feel you could talk to who could support you? Please check out our main website where there is a lot of helpful information that you can read. It helps explain OCD, ways of dealing with it, and offers advice on how to talk to your doctor or family.

Take care and let us know how you get on.

Hello,

I am sorry that you have to deal with this, but I assure you, you are not the only one suffering from this disorder. I am glad that you took the first step and decided to confront it by reaching out to others and recognizing your symptoms, which is important. After doing so, my OCD has been a lot more controllable than it was before I decided to let others know what was happening. However, this is only the first step. I am not sure of your background but usually, there are treatment options available for people like us who suffer from OCD such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and anti-anxiety medication. I recommend finding a professional if you can, or asking you parents about it to receive an official diagnosis. Also, one important thing to remember is that your thoughts are not real, they are irrational and they induce anxiety and make you do irrational things. I know it is hard to control but the reality is that nothing terrible is going to happen as a result of you dropping something on the floor or your hair brushing up against something that doesn't pose any real threat to you. You are not going to get a disease because you didn't wash your hands 100x a day. But this is how OCD works, by manipulating your fears and causing you to feed into them against your will. But it is controllable and you will finally feel normal again if you receive the proper treatment for it.

All the best to you and remember that this OCD does not determine who you are.
