"Having the wrong thoughts when performing a task"

I know that I have OCD. because I have certain anxieties which stem from performing tasks incorrectly, which results in repeating the task. I don't repeat a task because I tell myself that I have to perform a certain task a fixed amount of times before I am able to move on to whatever I need to do next. No, I repeat a task because I have the wrong thought in my head at the moment I perform a task.

Unlike having a fixed number of times where I must perform a task, for example, checking the door is locked 10 times only then leaving it alone. There is something more extreme (in my view) because there is no finite number which drives the compulsion: For example, while performing a perfectly mundane task such as, filling the kettle with water, anxiety is heightened owing to the wrong/inappropriate thoughts occurring while that particular task is being performed. This results in the need to repeat the task until that task has been completed properly, ie a specific thought must satisfactorily accompany a particular action before it (that task) to be deemed as being completed correctly.

My question is...Does anyone else she this sort of OCD problem?

Hi Thank you for your reply PolarBear

I would just like to add something to my original entry.

As I've mentioned, when I perform a task, such as filing up a kettle, I have to have the 'right' thoughts inside my head. If I think of something which is vaguely like, the water, ie similar in that's a liquid too, such as, washing up liquid, glue, I have to start again; empty the kettle and refill it, only ensuring that I think of something completely different. I had attempted saying out loud (and even quietly to myself) what I'm actually doing..."I'm pouring in fresh clean water into the kettle." This is fine and works well on my own sometimes, but when you have company, it can be disturbing for them as they don't understand my condition and invariable think I'm bonkers!

'm really struggling with this, as I can see exactly what PolarBear is saying, but because I'm ingesting whatever I'm using the water for either making a cup of tea orcoffee, I'm worried that this might harm me if I don't respond to my compulsions.

Sometimes I just think I am going bonkers and it's not OCD at all!!!

Help!!!

Hi pasta dish, yes I have this to, it can be doing almost anything. It's ok if nothing negative enters my head, but if it does, when it does, without warning or pravoke I have to redo or continue doing until my thought is clear or positive, that I'm satisfied with.

I find , with my self it can be linked with 'association', so if I'm looking at anything, listening to something when this negative thought arrises, this can alter/affect the outcome of the negative thought, if that makes sense. So if I'm filling the kettle and a negative thought arrises, I'd look around the room to see something that I have a positive association with, change that thought to positive and then I'm ok. I'm new to this forum and feel quite complex, does everyone?, I've posted an introductory brief on my experience so far and I saw your post which seems a little similar to part of my OCD 'duties, rituals'. My partner, family, friends and colleagues think I'm a 'faffer' and that I take lo her than my to do things, I'm usually late too, is this a given for OCD sufferers?
