Intrusive Thoughts

Hi there

Just wondering if anyone out there has OCD thoughts similar to mine ... I worry about thoughts that I could bring harm to someone or the ones that really worry me are thoughts 'could I be a paedophile?!' Which is ridiculous as I'm a kind, caring, nice natured person who doesn't even kill spiders! Worry about these thoughts is constant & I don't seem to get a break. The thoughts really worry me. I'm new to this site and would love to hear from you with how to deal with this. Is there an end to these abhorrent thoughts?

Take a look around on the main forum and you'll discover lots of people with the same types of intrusive thoughts as you.

There can be an end to the thoughts or at least an end to the thoughts bothering you. There are meds that can help and CBT is the most recommended therapy for learning to deal with the thoughts.

Have a look around and jump right in.

Thanks PolarBear. What would your best advice be for dealing with the thoughts or allowing them not to bother you?

I saw your post Winning just after I posted mine! At least we are not alone!

Kylie, it really helps to involve a professional who understands OCD. They can walk you through the process.

It also helps to become well educated about the disorder so you can, for instance, recognize your own obsessions and compulsions. You can also learn about therapy that is available.

The gold standard for OCD is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and it's cousin, Exposure and Response Prevention.

Thanks again Polar Bear. I'm on a long waiting list for CBT. Do you have any advice for dealing/coping with the thoughts in the meantime or any recommended reading please?
