Guest Rugbylover123
Hi, I've been struggling with ocd over the past year but am new to this website. I was just wondering if I could get some help From the people on this who have suffered for a while? So many questions I have to ask as a counsellor can only really understand the tip of the iceberg. How does everyone relax? Calm down when OCD gets a grip on you? My obsessions are irrational but I still struggle to work out whether or not it is a genuine fear or if it is OCD talking? Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks Rugbylover123 Link to comment
PolarBear
If OCD sufferers could easily tell whether something is a genuine concern or just made up there would be a whole lot of types of OCD that wouldn't be OCD. We'd easily know whether something is worth our concern and we wouldn't have a problem. My suggestion to you is to take a look at relaxation therapy and mindfulness. They are both similar in that they are processes to teach you to relax and bring your thoughts back to the present, instead of worrying about the future. Link to comment
Guest Rugbylover123
Okay, that's great thanks. Thee are times when I realise my obsession is irrational but ten minutes later I have the same problem Link to comment
Guest Rugbylover123
For a a while now my intrusive thoughts have been about rugby and my fears around that. I've been working hard lately and have managed to be put in my county squad for the second trial, however I can't seem to get out of my head the thought that I'm not good enough for it, I'm finding this thought really distressing. I watched a team today who have players who didn't get to the second trial and I just kept on thinking: 'could I have done that? No' 'is he better than me? Yes' 'should he have had my place' Just need someone to talk to and counsellor isn't until tuesday Link to comment
Guest Better together
But the decision to include you at county was made by others, and not yourself. So from what I have read from your post, the selectors chose you because you have proven yourself, and had you not done this they would have selected others ? You have to acknowledge the fact that they are in the position to make these decisions because of their experience, knowledge, and background of the game of rugby. I am no expert but it appears to me that you have put time, and effort into what you do. Take strength from the rewards you are now achieving for all your time, and effort in to gaining a place for your 'county squad'. Believe in yourself, inspire others, and the possibilities are endless..................................... Link to comment
