Hi I've had ocd for more than 3 years now, it is so bad now it sometimes stops me from eating, sleeping, interfering with my coursework really badly and causing my suicidal thoughts. I used to have treatment at camhs but they stopped my treatment last year november, they said because my home problems are bad there's apparently 'no point' in giving me treatment. Since then my ocd has become so bad I harmed myself twice now, have thought of killing myself. My mum tried to get me treatment at the priory, it's a private therapist, but camhs ave stopped me getting any treatment. I've gone to my gp, and everything, camhs just won't let me have any treatment. What can I do to stop camhs stopping me from getting treatment? And please don't say just don't get any treatment because I REALLY need treatment. I am 14.

well... this sounds very unfair. there are a few ways you could deal with it, however. camhs is being unreasonable. if you've already appealed to them for treatment strongly, you have to turn to others. you can try your best to get the story out. try emailing the iocdf or ocd-uk about the problem, so they can publicize this outrage. Try this number to contact Jeff Bell, OCD specialist at iocdf: 503-345-9164. it may or may not work. their numbers are hard to come by. Hope this helps--

better to stick to uk , email ashley@ocduk madison

seems unreasonable for them to not offer further cbt / erp .

what problems are at home that they feel will intrude on the cbt?

and does mum come onto forums at all ? perhaps she could email for further advice

i tried talking to samaritans but they said they can't help. My mum has depression and mental problems so they say there's basically no point Theyre just basicallty leaving me to rot, and wat's more, every time i try to find treatment somewhere else, they inform them saying to not let me have any treatment!

I agree - contact Ashley.

Pals may be able to helptoo - it may be worth asking your Mum to speak to them. Pals are the patient liason service for the NHS and it is their job to sort out things of this nature. They usually have an office where you can pop in to in a hospital and this is their website http://www.pals.nhs.uk/.

Hope you can get the support you need.

Keep posting here too.

Hi Madison, So sorry to hear about this, your condition, just like my daughters and every young persons on here is difficult enough to cope with without the outragious battles for treatment that many of us then find ourselves fighting for. When my daughter went for a hospital assessment in July of 2010, the consultants said that they wanted myself and husband assessed by the CMHT (adult mental health service) as in order to fully support my daughter throughout the hospital process, the discharge, recovery and moving forward that we needed to be in a good state of health ourselves, in order to manage within the home, as they felt that all the progress made would be lost if we were not sorted out. It made sense however as my daughter was rapidly deteriorating they admitted her 2 weeks later and ran advice on our treatment alongside. I was happy with this, my hubby wasn't which was a constant stumbling block, which I found really unfair on our daughter, as her condition was her condition that needed treatment whatever our situation.  I would contct Ashley as Legend has suggested, I am sure he will help, also I don't know what area you are in but you can go to an alternative CAMHS, ask your doctor about this. Also if things are really bad with the suicidal thoughts and self harm go to A&E, they have to take responsibility for you, and CAMHS crisis are called in to review. Stay strong, you will get there. x

I'm sorry about your situation. CAMHS are absolutely pants at helping people and seem to prefer blaming home life or parental faults than helping the sufferer. The few years I was seen by them, they refused to diagnose me or give me treatment (other than seeing a shrink every week and offering drugs which I refused) then had the cheek to blame my Mum for my other behavioural issues. I have since been diagnosed with OCD, Tourettes, autism and ADHD (still no treatment though!). It is completely wrong to refuse treatment to somebody, especially for the reasons you have stated. My Mum has mental health problems too and tries her best to help me through tough times. Definitely call OCD-UK and ask for help. I have heard this story about CAMHS far too often.

Stay strong x
