Hi, this is my first post. My son is 23 and had a psychotic breakdown when he was 14, this was caused by stress due to his aspergers. He now has really bad OCD and he says it is far worse than any of his past problems. He sees an occupational therapist once a fortnight who sets him challenges to get on with himself and that is all the help he gets. He tries to live independently but cannot cook or clean for himself, he lives off of takeaways and the hot food counter in his local supermarket, he cannot open his post or put his shoes on properly as they have all touched the floor. Needless to say, I have now had to give up work to support him .Does any one have any suggestions of how I can help him or should he be getting more support from the NHS.

The only place I have heard of that specialises in both ASD and OCD is the Maudsley hospital in London. You can phone and speak with them to see what they could do. It would involve your son being referred to them.

And realistically at 23 I think he is going to need support from Adult Services. That might be via their own services, or via Direct Payments where the money is used for someone to come in and support your son.

I know that will cause issues as well as help with some, as it will involve someone new coming into his home and doing things that he cannot currently do on his own due to either ASD or OCD or both.

I have a teenager who is also on the spectrum, and I find it much harder dealing with the OCD then I do the ASD.
