RESEARCH PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITY â COMPULSIVE HOARDERS

We would like to invite you to consider participating in a research study that aims to develop our understanding of Compulsive Hoarding.

Compulsive Hoarding has recently been categorised as its own disorder, separate from OCD. With this development, more research is needed to increase our understanding of how the disorder starts and develops over an individualsâ lifetime. When individuals present for treatment, we donât know whether the difficulties they show are due to the Hoarding problem, or whether they are due to other problems that have developed over the years.

We wish to talk to people who have both had the problem for a relatively short time and those for a relatively long time in an attempt to compare their experiences.

What would your participation involve?

  1. You will be asked to participate in an brief interview
  2. You will also be asked to complete a set of questionnaires
  3. You will be given a £10 voucher as a small gesture of thanks - This can be donated to OCD-UK.

Who can take part in this study?
We are looking for people with hoarding problems, either alongside obsessional problems or without them.

How long will it take?
In total, it is expected that participation involves approximately two hours.

Where will the interview take place?
The interview will be done over the phone or on Skype, depending on your preference. We can also arrange for the interview to take place at the University of Bath or possibly at your home.

How are the questionnaires administered?
The questionnaires can be completed online or by post (which can be returned in a pre-paid envelope), depending on your preference.

Is it confidential?
Yes. All the information you provide will be kept strictly confidential and securely stored.

How do I take part in this research?
If you think you might be interested in taking part, or would like to discuss any aspect of the study, please contact: Essie Rowland by emailing hoardingstudy@bath.ac.uk or by calling 07506 044058.
