feeling alone and hopeless

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new to this forum (and to any) so not quite sure of the etiquette - but hello - my name is Dom - I have OCD and had OCD since I was a child. I am in a bit of bad one at the moment and dont seem to see a way out of continual thinking about how I might contaminate my children with various infectious diseases that I have no way of knowing I have as there are no tests for them, I've made the mistake of looking up the medical literature on them and this has only increased my anxiety as medicine seems unable to be definitive. I dont think there is an answer but just in case - hence the post.

Hi Dom and welcome to the forum!

The doubt OCD can place on us can get us into right states! Though while we are concerned that things might happen like you do with your children, that does mean that we are good people and have others interests at the best of hearts. So remember that you are a good person!

See you around the boards :)

Hello. Yeah, as you said, it's always a mistake for people with OCD to look up things to get reassurance. It only makes things worse. Accepting uncertainty is a big part of getting a handle on OCD. Have you had any treatment for it?

accepting uncertainty does seem the crux of it but very hard to do when the imagined outcome of doing nothing is death of others
