Ashley
Hiya, There are a number of specialist OCD clinics through the NHS. All offer something slightly different and each have varying levels of results. Much depends on how your OCD impacts you as to which is the best for you. Will they help? Possibly, I don't think they can do any harm or make things worse, so you have nothing to lose. Sometimes some people try one specialist clinic first then one of the others. Where in the UK are you, and what form does your OCD take? If you are able to tell us I may be able to advice a little more on which one may be the best option. Getting a place is not that hard but it depends who is funding it, although there is a 2-5 month wait time. Generally we don't advocate surgery to treat OCD, did someone tell you that you should consider it? It's invasive and the results are nowhere near long-term life-changing that many advocating it promote. But of course it is an option, but hopefully not one you will ever have to consider. Ashley
Well my advice would be that you are eligible for two national clinics less than a hour from Kent and I think under NHS England funding, so NHS Kent do not have to pay. Option One Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (CADAT) an outpatient clinic service based at Denmark Hill. Option Two The sister clinic is Anxiety Disorders Residential Unit (ADRU) which is at Beckenham, Kent and is a residential where patients stay (Mon-Fri, but can return home at weekends), have weekly CBT (2 or 3 times a week) and then have some group sessions. I think there are about 12 patients at the clinic at any one time. Each will have their own room but on the same sex corridor. It's not a clinic that is staffed out of working hours, so patients must be able to care for themselves, i.e. bathe, toilet, shower, eat. Both clinics work together so an assessment at CADAT is my recommendation, if they feel outpatient is not sufficient for you they will refer you to ADRU. Link to comment

PhilM
IS there anything similar in Wales? Link to comment
Ashley
At this time the specialist clinics are all based in the South East or Bristol. The Bristol service does outreach work, in that where the patients OCD is primarily at their home environment or where they are so contaminated for example that they can't travel then they will visit to do the therapy. However your local CCG or Health Board (if outside England) have to agree to fund that. Link to comment

Ashley
What sort of surgery are you thinking of having for OCD? I didn't even realise their was surgery for it... Surgery for OCD is not recommended, and there is insufficient evidence to its long term benefits. Link to comment
