Purplepiper7
As summer comes to a close and school begins, it's only logical that my OCD will be a little bit harder to manage. The first week of school is over, and while it was stressful, it also went much better than it did last year. This weekend has been a trying one as guilt and fear have eaten away at me. I'm really tired, but I still have quite a bit of fight left in me. Seeing a therapist will be essential, but tricky in financial terms. I'm wary as autumn's darkness slowly makes it's way towards us. That feeling of utter despair is something that I'm not exactly looking forward to, though hopefully we'll work things out before the worst of it. Thanks for reading. I hope everyone is doing well. PS: I have a sore throat and feel guilty about it because, in my mind, I wouldn't feel ill right now if I were good. Link to comment
dksea
Perhaps it would help to find things about Autumn and Winter that you can enjoy and look forward to. Maybe it's a favorite show starting a new season, a type of food that will be back on the shelves (I always look forward to fresh apple cider in the fall), the beauty of autumn leaves and winter snow falls, upcoming holiday celebrations like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween, whatever is around you that you can focus on that will fill you with hope instead of despair. Also, perhaps you might benefit from a full spectrum lamp which helps fight SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. Maybe some of the trouble you have in the darker months is partly related to that. Purplepiper7
Thanks dksea. I am looking forward to watching "Grey's Anatomy" and "Raising Whitley." The fall isn't all bad, it's just harder to "live" during that time, if that makes sense. However, I will try to make the most of it. All region auditions will be coming up soon, so I can look forward to that. I can't wait. Link to comment
dksea
Awesome, glad to see you finding positive things to focus on! I am always amused whenever I see Greys Anatomy because it's supposed to be set in Seattle, but if your from here you can tell that they almost never shoot stuff here . I bet that's true for any show not set in LA or NY though! Link to comment
Purplepiper7
Try finding a show set in Texas where the people don't all dress like cowboys and the world doesn't look like a desert... But first, why don't we make sure there actually is a show set it Texas at all. Link to comment
gingerbreadgirl
if it makes you feel better most of our shows are not even set in this country! our channels are dominated by US TV ( most of which I love btw ) Link to comment
Purplepiper7
Lol I think most television shows are ridiculous, but I do enjoy a few. I also watch a lot of documentaries, and I like learning channels like "science" and "national geographic," to name a few. Link to comment
dksea
@Purple - What, you mean Walker: Texas Ranger isn't accurate @Ginger - What about Doctor Who! And Sherlock! Link to comment
gingerbreadgirl
@Ginger - What about Doctor Who! And Sherlock! haha fair enough - there are programmes set in the UK but there are a disproportionate number of shows set in the US - I'm not complaining though, I love me a bit of Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother Link to comment
dksea
Yeah I can imagine. We produce a ton (or is that tonne ) of TV shows here in the US (quite a few in Canada too) Link to comment
taurean
Autumn and winter will be different for me, now I've retired. I do turn to sport and light-hearted TV then - enjoying "Strictly come Dancing " and quiz shows. My wife likes crime dramas, but they don't suit my harm OCD - I find bland TV is much calmer for me, and so I look for material with a comforting theme - i love auctions, antiques, romance, art, music, quizzes, motoring, and they fit well for me. SaraJane
I like dksea's comment - I've found some thing I struggle with have improved when I've added a positive or comforting connection to it. So a dark night I might create into being able to hide away with a mug of cocoa by the fire. I hope your throat is better now - I find the ocd is worse when I have a sore throat/feel ill.
