Anxiety causing problems with mouth

I currently take Sertraline 150mg per day for depression/OCD.

In the last six weeks I've notice that my anxiety has become very bad. My GP has started me on a drug called 'Buspar' to help the anxiety. Is anyone else taking this?

I seem to have developed a very distressing problem at the moment. I seem to keep constantly moving my tongue around my mouth. Sometimes it feels like there's too much saliva and sometimes not enough. My tongue won't seem to stay still! I'm getting mouth ulcers as I'm constantly moving my tongue around and it's rubbing against my teeth. Has anybody out there suffered with this? I'm very frightened it's a physical problem but also am very aware of how clever the mind can be.

Would you say this is anxiety? I'd be really grateful for any advice anyone out there can give me?

I'm trying to blame the Sertraline as I was on Venlafaxine for 15 years and Sertraline is a new drug to me. If I'm bringing it on myself I haven't got a clue how to stop it!

Hi Caroline,

A few years back I was put on Risperidone and I kept opening and closing my mouth in a strange fashion. I didn't do it, it just sort of happened - I think that was the effect the meds had on me. Anyway, stopped the meds - no funny movement with my mouth.

I hope that your anxiety starts to reduce soon.

Take care :original:
