Handy replied to Obsessed and Compulsed's topic in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
I believe OCPD is about perfection in cleaning. It's also about perfection in organizing. -

Contamination OCD making me feel so overwhelmed
Handy replied to Jayne_'s topic in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Have you got a blood panel? There could be a clue in it I did,my thyroid was putting out too much. OCD during pregnancy is called Perinatal OCD, once the baby is born it's postpartum OCD & we have topics on those It seems from what people write that the kids become the theme so it's good to get it in control first. -

Did you read the Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing? Washing types I refer to as avoidants as they are trying to avoid a repeat of something that happened in the past by washing out what may cause it. Being tired makes you clean more? -
I believe OCD has an estrogen component as that's what my research says. Menopause is affecting estrogen so, its probably fluctuating. OCD goes up sometimes during PMDD, PMS, pregnancy, postpartum, all estrogen fluctuators. Gynos can prescribe estrogen normalizers. E g Progesterone creams. But I definitely believe your OCD is up due to menopause.

SSRIs take 8 to 12 weeks to be effective. Some people double dose thinking it'll speed things up, but that's not going to happen. It may cause Serotonin syndrome & it is the opposite effect. Be sure to ask your doctor.

What to do when you notice a new 'theme' creep in?
Handy replied to Purplegirl's topic in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
It's a new intrusive thought! I see it, watch it go by like a stick on a river. Sometimes they stick though -

We choose what we want to think about. So you can choose to think of something else. -
This feeling of dread, worry, doom and no hope

Setraline takes 8 to 12 weeks. It won't change your thoughts or actions. Anxiety is needed for survival but we don't want to much. I read 96% of those with OCD have a physical compulsion. What is yours? GAD it similar to OCD but no physical compulsion. -
Fear of having OCD and feeling anxious
Handy replied to Thiwanka's topic in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Metacognition is the process of thinking about one's thinking, including planning, monitoring, and evaluating one's understanding and performance. It involves being aware of one's thinking and learning, and of oneself as a thinker and learner. Were not doctors so we an only speculate. -

Sounds more like metacognition to me. -
How to support when I'm the contaminant?
Handy replied to jamesk's topic in Family, Friends and Carers (FFC)
By avoiding you, your daughter is avoiding the stress of germs. Avoiding counseling too. Get inside her mind, see what she's afraid of. I went through this, just like snowbear. One cause of OCD can be environmental, so have you tried another environment? Her room must be her safe place? -
Where Are you? In USA we have several organizations that assist.
