Hey guys. Just wanna know if there any ocd patients that have problem with coincidences? I mean he thought about the coincidences he just met again and again, afraid if it is the signs of something terrible? Is it normal? And is there any name specialized for this type of phobia? Sorry for my bad grammar >_<

Hi michelle, I don't have this but I have heard of others who do. When you get down to it is all the same thing where you get a thought. don"t like that thought, obsesses about it, try and relieve it by doing compulsions (which only makes it worse) and round and round we go.

Its called "magical thinking" form of OCD.

It can get so that we think we are creating these events which of course we can't they are coincidences but don't seem like they are.

If you buy a new car and really like it you seem to see that make and model everywhere don't you because you are consciously looking out for it?

Rationalise it in a behavioural experiment both of you! These are especially good at tackling this type of problem.

You make out the case for certain scenario being real eg its not a coincidence and what evidence you have to support this. Then you present the evudence againsg that.

I had such a situation last week. My new therapist asked me to keep a log of all my intrusions - there are several that I have especially in my life found distressing.

Blow me if these didn't present themselves during that week.

I faithfully recorded them on the log, noting how they occurred .Two appeared in entirely randomly-selected books purchased on my kindle, one on TV and knd in the newspaper. There could not possibly be any connection berween them- the fact they all appeared in the same week was pure co-incidence.
