  1. Howard, I'm learning regular cleaning. This is 15 minutes a day & once a week longer. Clean wharf used right away. It's how people keep clean houses. I know a gal that has OCD cleaning & has a cleaning business. I said, you do your compulsions all day & she said, yes, & get paid for it.
  2. I think of compulsions as coping mechanisms for stress. More stress, more compulsions. Therefore, reduce stress OR find another coping mechanism. One of my first tricks was to go for a walk rather than clean. Walking being the new coping mechanism. I can always wash when I get home. This brings up the question for me on what is a good coping mechanism. People use alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, food, exercise, compulsions. So is someone who washes an hour better than someone who drinks alcohol for an hour? It becomes a matter of too much.
  3. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a first-line treatment for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) that uses the exposure and response prevention (ERP) model. However, some people with OCD do not respond well to standard treatments like CBT or medications, which is known as treatment-resistant OCD.
  4. It's also about education. Arthritis occurs in young dogs too. So, is not an indication of age.
  5. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) are often confused due to their similar names, but they are actually distinct conditions. Here's a breakdown of the key differences: **Focus:** * **OCD:** Characterized by intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that trigger repetitive behaviors (compulsions) to manage anxiety. These obsessions can be about anything, from contamination fears to needing things to be perfectly symmetrical. * **OCPD:** Involves rigid personality traits centered around perfectionism, orderliness, and control. People with OCPD may have a strong desire for things to be done a certain way and become very distressed if things deviate from their expectations. **Distress:** * **OCD:** People with OCD often find their obsessions and compulsions distressing and disruptive to their daily lives. They may recognize these behaviors as excessive but feel powerless to resist them. * **OCPD:** Individuals with OCPD typically don't see their traits as problematic and may even find comfort in their rigid routines. They might view their behaviors as simply being organized and detail-oriented. **Insight:** * **OCD:** People with OCD often have some awareness that their thoughts and behaviors are irrational. This can motivate them to seek treatment. * **OCPD:** Those with OCPD often lack insight into how their personality traits affect themselves and others. They may resist seeking help because they don't believe they need it. **Co-occurrence:** * It's possible to have both OCD and OCPD.
  6. There isn't any drug that can change your thoughts. You sound as if they are intrusive thoughts, thoughts you don't put there yourself. Intrusive thoughts come from.our unconscious, like dreams. I believe No thought or compulsion can change what happens to you. This is due to intervening forces happening. You're not the thoughts, you're a person having the thoughts.
  7. Compulsions make us feel better quickly but also make real that which is not.
  8. Yes, I get it. I think its the stress from anticipatory grief it is called. This causes me anxiety, which is hyper vigilant awareness energy. Used up by doing physical compulsions, which actually make it better. Exercise makes feel good hormones that counteracts the anxiety. That's one reason compulsions work. I'm sure some won't agree, but I love to study medicine & chat about it 6 days a week. Eventually, I just figured life occurs on its own and & can't be influenced by doing compulsions & I must accept uncertainty that comes along. Does that make sense?
  9. Isn't perfectionist called OCPD? Not related to OCD.
  10. You're probably right where it originally came from, your grandparents. Didn't that get better? No amount of verifying is going to change your dog is it?
  11. I believe OCPD is about perfection in cleaning. It's also about perfection in organizing.
  12. Yes,rarely is there anything new, so post when youre ready.
  13. Have you got a blood panel? There could be a clue in it I did,my thyroid was putting out too much. OCD during pregnancy is called Perinatal OCD, once the baby is born it's postpartum OCD & we have topics on those It seems from what people write that the kids become the theme so it's good to get it in control first.
  14. Did you read the Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing? Washing types I refer to as avoidants as they are trying to avoid a repeat of something that happened in the past by washing out what may cause it. Being tired makes you clean more?
