Guest anonga11
Is it normal for OCD to fluctuate? Sometimes, I can push down an urge to do a ritual, other times, I have a hard time with it. Link to comment
PolarBear
anonga, yeah OCD fluctuates a lot, both in frequency of intrusive thoughts and how strong they come on. Sometimes you'll be able to shrug off a thought (which is a good thing) and other times the urge to perform a compulsion is so great you end up caving. Totally normal. Link to comment
Guest LauraMac
Yeah that's ocd for you. Some sufferers find it waxes and wanes over time. Link to comment
Guest Sally44
My sons is different almost on a daily basis. Greater towards the end of the school week. Greater at the start of school after a holiday. Less if he is feeling less anxious generally. I think it is really good that there are times when you don't need to complete the ritual. That is the mindset you have to get into ie. the OCD raises its worry and you hear it, but do nothing about it. And if you can try to ignore it, or at least postpone it during bad times too, then slowly the OCD starts to lose its power over you. Link to comment
Jack123
Mine fluctuates hugely if I'm going to do something I enjoy, or something different, such as; I went to Devon the week before last, it took me like half an hour to leave the house, because I was so excited I kept do rituals over and over again to make up for the days I wasn't going to be at home?
