When Posting New Topics - Top Tips

Here are some top tips to help you get a good number of replies to your topics.

1. Use a meaningful and relevant topic title.

Try and use a keyword relevant to your post. So for example if you have intrusive thoughts about hurting or harming someone your topic title may be: 'Harming Intrusive Thoughts'. Such topic title's are much more likely to get a response from people with similar problems than a topic title which simply says 'Help' or 'Advice Needed'.

2. Avoid using acronyms like ROCD, POCD, HOCD in topic titles.

These acronyms often confuse people, and actually have no real meaning anyway and also lead to a failure to understand you need to treat OCD, not some special form of the illness, it is all OCD.

3. Keep your posts as short and concise as possible.

The topics which seem to get the best number of replies are those which are brief (2 or 3 short paragraphs) and concise containing relevant information about the problems you are experiencing. Topics which start off with a single line which contain very little information makes it harder for people to get an understanding of what you are experiencing, and to the other extreme a long, long opening topic post may put people off reading and they may only scan.
