NICE guidelines

Recommended Posts

I've just been reading the nice guidelines relating to the treatment of ocd and bdd and it says "when a person of any age is in remission,he or she should be reviewed regularly for 12 months by a mental health professional. The exact frequency should be agreed between the professional and the person with ocd/bdd.At the end of the 12 month period if recovery is maintained they can be discharged to primary care".Since February no one has tried to contact me.I've gone into complete relapse now and am no longer able to look in mirrors at all.Although I begged for treatment to be continued at the time it was refused.Even if they had only contacted me once in this time I might have been persuaded to continue treatment.I was never strong enough to restart treatment myself because it meant looking again every day.Given the option I couldn't do it.I was never in remission in the first place. It seems a waste of all they did somehow. Are they allowed to just ignore the guide lines or do they argue that they are just guidelines and not compulsary..It seems to me if it had been handled differently treatment would have been cheaper in the end because eventually I will go back to constant mirror checking again.sorry just feeling a bit fed up

You and me both lovid. I think the problem lies with the lack of funding which makes it near impossible to follow the guide lines to the letter, not that they are ignoring it. I'm sure people who work in the mental health sector are just as frustrated as we are

Hi Yingyan. Thanks for the reply.Yea I think you're right. In an ideal world they probably would follow the guidelines more closely but I suppose they are just "guidelines"

I was only seen the other day by my mental health team. He had next to nothing to offer me due to cuts, he admitted this. Me and my girlfriend decided to write an email to our local MP highlighting the difficulties on getting help through the NHS. We have had a positive response and he happens to be a minister of state for care and support, so fingers crossed. We have even started logging our experiences and plan on sending them to him also. In the hope he will get a better understanding. Really having to step up a gear now and fight for support. If you have the energy in you I would urge you to do the same..

Power to the people ! :p
