Hi there,

My names Joe, and I'm new here. I'm not quite sure how this whole thing works, but I figured it'd be good to talk to other people with ocd and just share problems and advice with each other? To start off I'm 18 years old and have been dealing with ocd for about 11-12 years now. It's so ingrained in my day to day life that everything I do is based on my ocd and rituals. The most stressful part is the intrusive thoughts which have really picked up in the last couple of years, along side the constant checking it's really taking a toll on me. I've been having therapy for the past 4 months, but I haven't seen the improvement I was hoping for. If anyone's got and advice or tips, they'd be really helpful because I don't really know where to go from here.

Thanks

Joe

Welcome to the forum, Joe. Do have a look around the main forum to see what we talk about and by all means jump right in.

There's lots of helpful people and i think every single one of us is an OCD sufferer/ex-sufferer.

Hi Joe. What type of therapy are you having? Is it CBT? Sometimes progress can be slow. Is your therapist setting you any exposure homework for you to carry out between sessions?

Hi legalseagull, it is but the sessions are moving slowly. It's working but I'm not getting much exposure homework. Although my therapist did suggest checking out the forums on this page, just so I can talk to more people with ocd and basically see that I'm not the only one going through this

And thankyou PolarBear, it's nice too see that people here aren't facing their problems by themselves. I'll make sure to check out the other threads soon

Hi Joe,

I just wanted to say :welcome: to the support forums. Have you expressed your concerns to your therapist? It could be a case of the therapist not wanting to push you to far too fast. Therapy does take time, feeling frustrated with it is also very common. As PB has said have a look around the main forum page, things move much faster over there. Feel free to jump in and reply to others and of course create your own posts. You will find lot's of friendly advice from people that really understand.

Hi Joe, welcome to the forums. I'm glad to hear you are working with a therapist, that can be a big help. Sorry you are frustrated by the slow progress, I agree with mentioning it to your therapist, maybe you'll be able to move things up, but even if not at least you'll know and can talk about why. Do keep in mind that your working at undoing over a decade of OCD, so it may take time to push through. Best of luck to you in your recovery!

Hi Joe, I'm exactly the same apart from I'm 19 years old but I've had a lot more therapy.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Feel free to message me or post in the main forums.

Regards
