I just wondered if anyone else had any experience of going through the NHS maternity system while having OCD (or any anxiety disorder).

My experience so far has been less than positive I have to say.

There have been inconsistencies in my notes (they had me down as having depression instead of OCD, had the wrong dosage of my SSRI down, spelt the name of my SSRI incorrectly and also had me down as being 3 years younger than I am), the obs consultant I seen regarding my taking an SSRI while pregnant was most rude and made me feel as if I were poisoning my baby in the womb. I was also told that 'if your baby ends up in SCBU when they're born, it will be because of something you 'chose' to do, not something the maternity staff did'. Like I 'chose' to have a condition for which I take medication for!

When ever they ask how I'm doing at my ante natal appointments and I say good, I'm always asked if I'm not worried about certain things (last time it was whether my baby has down's), which I wasn't worrying about, but now I ****** am because they mentioned it, even though my down's test came back as a 1000000 chance of my baby having downs.

That's terrible :(

Have you thought about asking someone to come with you to maternity appts? Someone to help you to fight your corner?

If you feel that you're being badly treated and want to make a complaint then you could perhaps have a word with PALS?

Sorry, not really an expert on the UK system!

Thanks Lottie,

I'm now taking either my Mum or my Husband to ALL antenatal appointments, we're also considering a complaint after the baby is here.

I had fantastic care during pregnancies for my OCD, it was afterwards I was let down.

I took 20mg fluoxetine/prozac throughout my last pregnancy, no problems at all.

Potty potter, do you mind me asking, did your baby have any signs of withdrawal from the SSRI when they were born?
