Ok, so i suffer from severe OCD and have done since i was 18. Its mainly cleanliness focussed, i have to hoover 2 or 3 times a day because we have a dog and the dog hair bothers me alot. I am constantly looking for dirty areas in my house to clean and it has engrossed my whole life lately. I have had several sessions of CBT but the treatment hasnt helped much. The reason i posted here is last year i had a tattoo done by an under talented artist that did an awful job. Its quite a large tattoo and is exposed when wearing short sleeve tshirts. I have found that my life has now been consumed with how bad it is. I am always trying to pull my sleeves down and will wear a long sleeve shirt as much as possible. I have had 4 laser sessions to date but its going to take another 5 or 6 and maybe a year before it will be removed. My wife has said that it isnt that bad and she wouldnt point it out in the street and that i am worrying too much what people think but i feel that my OCD has made this situation worse and therefore making me act unreasonable about it. Has anyone experienced this type of thing or have any advice? thank you.

It is possible OCD has latched onto your dictate for the tattoo and is now making the situation worse than it really is.

You're doing something about it so over time it will go away. If I was embarrassed about a tattoo I'd probably hide it too.

Don't make it worse than it is. It's fixable, you're working on it. It could also become a teachable moment... The pitfalls of using a lousy artist.

I think that as time goes by and the appearance of it improves you should feel better.I suppose as you have OCD it may not seem all that suprising that you are a bit obsessive about it as I expect it's in your nature
