  1. I had this, I was very obsessed with how my breath smelt. It played on my mind lots. It did affect how I interacted with others at work, breathing in kind of when talking, covering my mouth, breathing shallowly next to people. I live in a farming area and the air smells but I’d convince myself it was my breath. On the bus, at the pub, work, everywhere I went I was very conscious and concerned. It was a real obsession. I went through tons of mouthwash and gum/mints. Close friends would say honestly that my breath never smelt and my partner promised he would tell me if it ever did. All in my head! It took quite awhile for that obsession to pass!
  2. Existential OCD. An Obsession with Why-Impulse Therapy.com This may resonate with what your going through @ViX it explains very well some of what you’ve written. An interesting read. Hope you find it helpful.
  3. I’ve been on sertraline for coming up to 4 weeks now at 50mg a day. I totally understand the morning feeling you get, I feel like that for a couple of hours in the morning,it’s flipping awful ! Thanfully it does slowly deplete as the day goes on. I have to say though for the last couple of days, especially today I haven’t had the dread, full consuming physical anxiety in the morning. Hang in there, hopefully it’ll all settle down. Fingers crossed ?!
  4. @WinnieWoo how are you getting on with your medication? Thank you for the replies all. I’ve been on sertraline for a week now, it seems to be helping. Ups and downs but I think overall it’s helping with the psychical symptoms, that dreaded nervous feeling has calmed down somewhat though first thing in the morning it’s still there. Early days .......

  6. It is scary and terrifying with the most awful thoughts that we suffer with, it is cruel and it does zap the joy from our life’s and fills it with dread. That’s OCD and not us. It represses us. I’m only starting out on therapy and meds, it’s very early days for me. So as much as I would like to give you good sound advice, I’m not really in the position to. You may find this video helpful though:- This lady is wonderful, YouTube -Christie Hodges “ Why does OCD feel sooo Real “ Her YouTube videos have helped me a lot to understand what’s going on, she’s worth a watch. take care @Belina x
  7. Having insight has helped me vastly. I’ve been prescribed Sertraline 50 mg. I am a little apprehensive, but going to give it a good go! Thank you for your replies @ashipinharbor @ivybasil @PolarBear @MarieJo
  8. Whoa there matey! Have a minute and go through the work you have been doing with your therapist. Take a step back and remember how far You have come from the start in your journey to recovery. You have got this mamma, you have !! Polarbear’s pretty blunt in his responses, that’s his way I think.
  9. It cut’s out the electric instantly if the power is cut or altered. You can then press the reset button to go again, if it’s just a trip. We've had one in our family for years, my mum cut over the hovermower cable and it cut it out and did it’s job. Needed to get a new lawnmower though! Not too safe to gaffer it together, like you often see people doing. Not to feed anything, but always check the blade before use, to see if it’s on nice and firm. Might need a tighten. Obviously not while it’s plug in! I used to do landscape gardening it’s one of the safety checks before use. Your welcome ? they’re pretty cheap at less then a tenner.

A safety cut out switch for use of lawnmowers/ hedges cutters etc. Link is for screwfix, but Argos sell them too, I’ve had one for years, nice bit of piece of mind.
  11. Thank you all so much for your insightful and honest replies @ecomum @discuccsant @BelAnna @felix4 @Morcimer @MarieJo @Stace We’ve all been through the darkest of tunnels to find the light of day in recognising our OCD battle.
  12. I’m in the process of getting prescribed either Sertaline or Fluoxetine. I’d like to ask you on your own thoughts and personal experiences please with the above ? Thanks!
  13. @snowbear thank you for your advice. I could be a bit blinkered at the moment with it all as I do have other stuff going on. I suppose my behaviour does sound a little over the top but life experiences do play a role. I did experience seeing a kid many years ago choke on a pickled onion at an engagement party buffet, everyone freaked out- myself included, it was terrifying! I didn’t know the kid, but was left shaking and sobbing being witness to it. My friend who I was with had recently done a first aid course through sea cadets and did the heinnik manoeuvre on him, that got it out!! The boy was fine and was back up at the food table a small time later. It’s kinda stuck with me. As for checking on my babies / and little ones breathing, I did that as my eldest at around the age of 4 months stopped breathing and passed out after having a screaming tantrum episode. Resulting in me banging on my neighbours door and windows (who I didn’t know at the time ) for help, my baby came round cried then passed out again. We called the ambulance and by the time they got to where I live my baby was sat up and as right as rain again. All well and happy. These things stick with you, OCD or not. Terrifying episodes. The kind of OCD I have going on at this very moment feels so abstract and detached it feels nothing like parenting anxiety. Terrifying in its own f**** up way. As you suggest it’s best to get it sorted out and dealt with encompassing all aspects.
