  1. Hello Jamie and welcome to forums. The way I see things is that I can have obsessive thoughts (I often need to know that something is 100% correct or in order). My compulsions (compulsive behaviours) are what I do to convince myself that everything is 100% OK. This is an example of a compulsion. You seem to be checking things so that you can have 100% certainty that things are OK. In my experience one compulsion will lead to another compulsion and things spiral out of control. This can be very dibilitating for me because I can spend hours a day locked in compulsive behaviours. What would you prefer to do? Spend all day doing what you need to do and enjoying life, or Spend all day in debilitating OCD behaviours. Of course, we all want to do the first option. Back in 2021 I had a course of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which helped me to reduce my debilitating behaviors. Perhaps that is one option for yourself?
  2. What would cause the greater anxiety? Doing the task once then move on and manage the anxiety that arises Avoid the task and try to manage the anxiety caused by that avoidance. Anxiety can arise in both but with the first option, the task has been done. Managing the anxiety becomes the key. I know from my experience it is not easy and learning to manage the anxiety can take much practice.
  3. Hello and welcome to the forums. I can see you are distressed by your current situation and want to enjoy life again. What things are you doing or could do to divert your attention away from the negative thinking?
