  3. Sometimes breaking my routine or trying something new can increase my OCD behaviours. This morning I went to another supermarket and not my usual (safe routine) one. I ignored the 'what ifs' and went for it. I enjoyed it and treated myself to something special for my lunch.
  4. A key part I pick up from you is that you really enjoyed it. I have found that going out in a similar way to yourself lifts my mood. It does not matter what label I put on it. If my mood is lifted my OCD behaviour usually goes down.
  5. I dont think that is a fair or accurate comparison to make. There is a vast difference between physical and mental health issues and the amount of knowledge and understanding that even the Medical profession have of the two issues.
  6. It is good to hear that you are in therapy (there seems to be a long waiting list at present). I will leave the specific details of your post for you to discuss with your therapist. I hear your reluctance to bring this issue up with your therapist but in my experience therapists are well trained professionals and are trained to deal in a professional manner with some of the more sensitive topics they are presented with. In my own therapy, I found it useful to write down some prompt notes to help me to open up to my therapist when in a therapy session.

  8. You have told people on here about it so perhaps just bear in mind what you said in your previous paragraph; Your therapist will give you the help you need and not make any negative judgements. Forum users/therapists are all aiming to help you towards recovery.
  9. I will say no to both of these questions. You are asking for help and help is always available. Nobody is beyond help. Are you currently receiving any Medical help or any therapy?
  10. A suggestion for you. How about working in the health sector? I worked in the NHS and the mandatory training is required to be done by all employees. One of the modules was Equality and Diversity (this includes disabilty issues). Managers are trained to work with people who have disabilities and make reasonable adjustments to their working conditions. Look at it in a positive way - your IT skills may prove an invaluable asset to their organisation. On a practical note, the IT technicians in my Trust could access my computer from anywhere and remotely fix many of my issues (secure networking). Working from home would be possible that way.
  11. I would say at this point is try not to put a specific labei on your mental health issue. The good thing now is that you have started therapy and your therapist will work through those issues with you. I am certainly not qualified to give you a specific diagnosis - that is best left to the qulaified professionals. For myself it was not until the end of my therapy that my therapist sent a letter to my GP stating I had done CBT and OCD was discussed. The label is not important but the fact that the therapy set me on the road to recovery is important.

  13. Really? Howard I agree with Lynz , you are often sidetracking threads and going off on tangents and causing confusion. I note a comment you made on one thread: I think we all just have to draw our own boundaries. And yes sometimes I'm approaching a subject from two opposing or conflicting perspectives, it's a technique I picked up at uni, as part of the way to fully understand something. To that I will simply say that this is an OCD forum and not a University Debating Society. Please stick on the topic. There are other places you can debate all your peripheral debates.

  15. Hello and welcome to the forums. Could I ask if you have asked for any Medical advice about these matters (eg. your GP). In particular regarding suicidal thoughts.?
  16. All I can say on this is that I have been through therapy and my OCD behaviour is greatly reduced because of the therapy and the subsequent work I have put in to stay on the recovery road. My therapist also went on leave but it gave me opportunity to keep on working on the therapy I had received to that point. I like to say that my therapy was just the start of my recovery journey. How far will I go on that journey? So long as today is better than yesterday then I will keep on the road.
