Hi Angst.... My therapist advises to 'acknowledge' the feelings and then move on with something you need to do or want to do. She uses the word 'acknowledge' rather than the word 'distract' as it is important to feel the feeling and acknowledge it is there and to let it be there - but then to get on with things rather than just 'distract' yourself from the feeling. I think this is probably what you mean anyway but just thought I would add it in case it is of any help.
