Hi, I’m currently half way through a 12 week course of CBT with my local NHS IAPT service. All my therapist talks about is ERP, nothing else. I said I really want to work on the cognitive side of things first (thoughts, ways of thinking, meanings, theory a/b, etc). He said that isn’t how it’s done in the NHS and we have to go straight in to ERP. Just doesn’t feel like therapy to me. I’m not getting anything more than a book can give me. Effectively I’m just being told, this is ERP, go and try it. Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on whether this sounds right or not. It’s not what I expected from CBT and if all it is gong to be is someone relaying an ERP booklet to me, then it definitely won’t help me. Thanks, Stu.
