OCD on You tube

Hello Everyone.

I have suffered from OCD as long as I can remember, I have a friend who is a fan of comedy and she spends ages on Youtube looking for new stuff, she sent me a link to really horrible(imo) video of a guy going under the name of ********* TV and one of his videos is a blatant,offensive and cruel dig and mickey take at sufferers of OCD, I have sent a message to the person who put the video on and just got a nasty reply, I urge anyone else who is hurt by the horrible way this horrid person portrays an OCD sufferer to leave comments , he has deleted mine but maybe the more negative comments he gets the sooner he will realise he is not funny just cruel!

Sadly social networking sites like You Tube are full of uneducated rubbish, and we simply do not have enough time in the world to respond to every crass offensive remark made by uneducated idiots and why we don't allow links to such sites.

A much more positive thing to do is to make a more informative article, post, story, blog about ones own OCD on such websites, or submit to websites like our own.

I would recommend not getting involved in a war of worlds with this user because some people take pleasure in mocking others, and it is simply a negative cycle that won't help you in the long run. By all means report the video to You Tube, but then leave it at that, let them deal with it. Sometimes in life you can't control some things, they are outside our circle influence and for ones own health we have to chalk up it to 'life sucks' and move on, for our own well being.

Which part of it was I meant to laugh at?Unfortunately my YouTube is in a foreign country and I don't understand how to operate the comments section but you do have my full support, maybe the producer should be told? You bet, if this ***** ****** person had taken the mikey out of anything else, like the disabled or any other disadvantaged group, he would have been sued.

For the record, I think there may be some crossed wires somewhere because this is not at all offensive. Whatever the original intent was, it actually portrays what some people (myself included) think like with that form of OCD.

i am a big fan of youtube,but when u go on there,u have to expect some stuff which u wont like.There are some horrible people out there who mock others to cover their own inadequacies...just remember,he probably * removed *

Who or what suggests that was his intention? Sorry, but my interpretation of the video is that it is not offensive at all, and what he says regardless if it was intended to be funny or not, I can actually relate to with my own OCD.

hi havedoneso.My advice would be not to waste your energy with people like that.He could have posted the video with the intention of causing controversy,and by posting your comments says how horrible it was etc,youre playing right into his hands.As Ashley says,there are people like that everywhere.Personally,i know in the past i have wasted too much energy on people and things which arent making me happy and are stressing me out.Dont make the same mistake i did.Concentrate on writing articles to educate people on how ocd really is,and leave it at that.you cant change someone elses opinions.I have to say,i dont care if people do make fun of ocd,i even make fun of my own sometimes,i think theres a line though....having not seen the video i cant comment on what i think of it.Im sorry it has upset you.

That is rally good advice Cat. Sometimes we get bogged down in really negative stuff, which we can't change and it just makes us unhappy. Sometimes you do just have to walk away.

Good grief Ashley, just because you are not offended it does not mean that other people are not, you are throwing your weight around here like some kind of Hitler figure,the video was intended to be funny it is listed in the comedy section of youtube, all I have said is that, I am offended by it, I do not find it funny and was just sharing my view, you have proceeded in deleting the link(fine its against rules posting 3rd party links) and also deleting a perfectly harmless comment made by Cat1.

As I said I chose the wrong forum, I suffer from this illness and came to a forum to discuss and show how we can be perceived and made fun of , all you have done is made me feel worse.

How am I throwing my weight around? I have moderated a thread for three basic fundemtnal No, No's. We simply don't allow links to You Tube, that is our forum policy, always has been. I have edited out the name of an individual, not fair on that person and a comment maybe not suitable for a family forum was also removed.

P.S. I had removed the link before I viewed the video as per our moderation policy.

First, sorry Ashley, I didn't know that naming a person whose name appears in YouTube was against the rules, but I do have to agree with havedoneso. If it is labelled under comedy, it's clearly intended as such. I think, if he wasn't meant as a mock, he would have discussed his OCD in a totally different manner.

well now - that is an interesting video - that is very very interesting . i kind of agree with both sides of the debate now - sorry - hear me out ...

when i first started to watch it - i really really thought he was taking the micky - straight away i thought - right he is taking the micky

but........ the thing that threw me into thinking that there was something more to his micky taking was ...he has a heck of a lot of knowledge that i really think you would only ever know if you had ocd - so i think he probably has it himself

maybe just maybe he is intending the video to be micky taking because it is his only way of dealing with his ocd - but i think he has some strains of it ....

i think he has deliberatley started off for it to be **** taking ....but then it has dropped into some truths for him

i agree with both sides to be honest - i can see possibly how he starts off and the catagory he's put it in ...but i cant help thinking that he has decided to make fun of it only cause he has it and has no other way of dealing with it - he has to laugh at it - its how he deals with it - but i suspect he has it himself .......

let me give an example - my hubby has lived with my ocd for 20 odd years - he knows it well - he has watched me for years - yet he still (even after all those years) he still cant explain my mind set to anyone ...thats what makes me think the guy has it himself - its how he talks about it.

the other thing that makes me think he has it himself, is i am at college at the moment brushing up on a counselling course and when we are doing counselling skills practise, we are asked to talk about something really trivial and really lighthearted , but without exception , even though we start off in this way - every member of the 18 people in the group always drop into their own serious issues wiithin minutes of starting a lighthearted subject

its like whatever is inside us troubling us needs to get out and i think this is what the guy has done here - started off light - but i think towards the middle/ end of the video he is telling the truth - why else would it even occur to him to do this

you made a very interesting point hunny , and i was thinking at the time - i wonder what his other videos are of ...if i had of had more time i would have looked at them all to get a better picture of the man. you do make a really interesting point hunny :hug:
