Crass OCD Comments

Russell Howard on Mock the Week a few weeks ago (although it was on Dave so it was probably older).

Something along the lines of:

"I used to have a room-mate with OCD. He was great fun to watch as every time he wanted to leave the house, he had to touch this, do that, do his special funny little dance".

I can't remember exactly what he said but that was the gist of it, cue guffaws of laughter from the ignorami in the audience.

I have loads of examples of morons in the media taking the mick out of OCD / mental illness. It's one of my pet hates. I would happily have people laugh at my hair / clothes / figure / speech / whatever, for the rest of my life if it meant not spending one more time locked in the toilets crying my eyes out because of these illnesses, with hands that bleed through over-washing, too afraid to become pregnant or even look at a child in case I harm them. Yes, that's hilarious.

Now now Ashely, let's not be so hasty. I think this writer has severe and pervading OCD, Obliviousness (to) Compassion (for a) Disability. She desperately needs CBT, Correction Before (it is) Trivialized.

I think things have to be put into context. A lot of people don't really understand ocd. They are not morons they are just uneducated.
