Warning about dodgy links

Hi all

This has nothing to do with my previous post about auras, but it's an issue that arose while I was looking up the subject (+OCD) on Google.

Some idiot out there is using mental health terms, including OCD, to try to draw people into a 'premium rate' pornography site that attempts to download a dialler to your PC. I've got a Mac, so can't be affected, but maybe you can be if you have a PC.

If while you're innocently following a link to an apparently reputable source of info (they are using many different site names, in the .org and .com domains) you get redirected to buy-traffic.net, get out of that site straightaway!

I have reported this to Google, I don't know if other search engines are affected, but you have been warned!

Thanks for that Stephen :)

It's getting really annoying isn't it, you can't go online these days without something :) Since my husband's been on his PC tonight something has 'dropped' into his computer, can't get it on line at all, says it's already connected to another modem.....I don't know what he's done :)

Hi Caramoole

Yes, very annoying, though of course you're putting it mildly. I can't believe (he said in Meldrew mode) that anyone would hijack OCD and other mental health issues to peddle such stuff. Although it would not be without intent, because people with mental illnesses are vulnerable and suggestible and could go there for reasons other than the obvious.

Is your husband with wannabe? I ask that only because a friend and fellow board user has had connection problems all day and they keep getting strange modem messages.

Wannabe (more like Thatllbe) and BT deny all knowledge of course. Don't they always?

Cheers

There certainly seems to be a lot of nasty people with nasty software out there waiting to download itself and cause havoc. - Think I might be a little too obsessed about it all

Personally I have ad-aware by lavasoft , Spybot search and destroy AND ez antivirus Plus i'm on broadband too! so theoretically I cant be hijacked by a dialler or anything nasty (I still dont feel safe though!). I think people who try and take advantage of inocent surfers are total :censored:

MAKES ME MAD!!!!! :)

Sorry for that outburst and Thanks for the warning!

Hi all

A quick update. I've now heard back from Google and have submitted a 'spam report' If anyone else comes across anything dodgy during a Google search, here's the link to do this:

http://www.google.com/contact/spamreport.html

You will need to provide details of what you were searching for, results page on which you found it, and the links you are complaining about.

Google say they regard this kind of stuff as fraud, and are committed to getting rid of it.

Cheers

Stephen
