Guest OCD-UK RSS
Continuing our commitment to provide OCD conferences around the whole of the UK, we are proud to announce that for 2013 we will be hosting our annual national OCD conference in the North East, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on Saturday 2nd November 2013. Our conference is primarily aimed at those with OCD, along with their family and friends, but we also welcome health professionals or anybody else that may also be interested in learning more about OCD. Our conferences are a great way to listen to, learn from and even ask questions of the some of the leading OCD experts here in the UK, but also to meet others with OCD and share coping experiences, and for some, to make new friends too. If it's your first time at an OCD conference, then we understand you are likely to be feeling incredibly nervous and wondering whether you should come, even more so if you're traveling alone. We can assure you that you won't be the the only one coming for the first time, and everyone there will be friendly, and understand exactly what you go through with OCD on a daily basis. We will do our vest best to make everyone feel welcomed and relaxed, so please don't be afraid, we will do all we can to make you feel welcomed on the day. We will be lining up a superb array of highly acclaimed health professionals and inspirational speakers covering a diverse range of OCD related topics. We are extremely excited about the programme we are planning, and we hope that you will be too. Confirmed speakers already include Professor Mark Freeston and Dr Claire Lomax, and we will have people with OCD sharing their experiences of successfully living with their OCD. We hope to announce more speakers and the full agenda for the conference in the near future, so please do check back on this page for further updates. The full agenda will be available in a few weeks, but we intend to build on a brilliant 2011 and 2012 conferences and create a fantastic 2013 conference, to make the people of the North Our venue Our venue is the fantastic modern and spacious Newcastle Business School and School of Law Building, part of Northumbria University. Ashley
For anyone planning to come to Newcastle, now may be a good time to book your hotel rooms, because I note with interest today that Newcastle are at home to Chelsea that weekend. Link to comment

Guest Flery70
I will be travelling from Germany (although I'm a Greek national). I am thrilled about the comference and feel very happy to having found recently your forum. I don't feel alone any more! Would you recommend staying in London or has Newcastle something to offer? Guest Charlotte
Hi Flery70! Whereabouts in Germany are you? I live in Munich, although only for another 3 weeks and then I'm moving back home to France. I'll be very sad to leave! I'll be at the conference too - I can't wait. I went to Newcastle at the beginning of the year to do a six week placement and absolutely fell in love with the city. There is so much to do and it's a wonderful place. I would recommend staying there. Lottie Link to comment
Guest Flery70
Hi Charlotte! Thanks for your message! I live in Frankfurt for work reasons. If you plan to visit the city, please let me know. I would like very much to meet you. I also like speaking French, I had done a DESS in Strasbourg. Link to comment
Ashley
Hi Flery, It would be great if you can join us. I hope to confirm the first draft next week for what looks like an action packed and this year a very practical agenda. Lottie can tell you more about Newcastle than me, but depending if you will be here for longer than the weekend, Newcastle is a great base to head up to Scotland for a few days, or down to the North East coast for a few days. I look forward to perhaps meeting you in November. Kind regards, Ashley Link to comment
Guest Lexy81
Hiya do you have to pay for the conference?? I have a relative in Newcastle so could definitely come Link to comment
Guest Charlotte
Hi Lexy, It would be great to see you there! Yep, you do need to buy a ticket but there are special deals if you book in advance and it's also cheaper if you're an OCD-UK member. I can't post a link as I'm on my iPod but if you go to the website then you'll find all the details. It's a fab opportunity to hear from some of the most renowned OCD specialists as well as meeting people from around the UK. Lottie Link to comment

Guest honey
Thanks Legend; I am keen to go but also strangely embarrassed! It's weird to think that I am embarrassed about admitting I have OCD, in a room full of people with OCD. It's because I don't tell anyone in the real world about my condition. I can 'pass for normal' (JUST) so I'm not used to admitting it. It's crazy, but I think that people at the conference will judge me for having OCD! Sigh...some work to do there I think. I am going to book asap...this will be after the holiday I admit to in my running blog, which will take quite a lot of money (for wine and chocolate-based products). Thanks again honey Edited August 3, 2013 by honey Link to comment
compulsivflyer
Feeling I should make the effort this year and go to this. The event in Bournemouth a few years ago was a catalyst for change for me. 700 mile round trip from here though, anyone else going up from down South? Link to comment
Guest LucyS
Ah heck, I so desperately want to come to the conference, I'm going to have to look into how to get there and the practicalities (very clingy 12mth old, not sure he'd be able to be left at home), but I'll absolutely do my best to join you all! Eek! Link to comment
Guest LucyS
Oh and what time does it start? I'm not good at staying in hotels etc so would have to make the 3.5hr journey there on the day x Link to comment
Guest Elle Belle
Boo I'm probably working... and I don't much fancy the journey from the south! Link to comment
Ashley
Boo I'm probably working... and I don't much fancy the journey from the south! Aah that is a shame, although it is a long ride, well 3 hours on train from Kings Cross I think. I think one of our speakers for this years conference actually lives near you (well same town). We will record it and make it available in the members area within a week or two of the conference. Link to comment

We generally have people arrive thoughout the morning, so it would be ok if you were a tad late if you decided to travel on the morning of the conference. Ashley Link to comment
Guest Charlotte
Just thought that I'd revive this thread as we get closer to the big day. Anybody else thinking of joining us? Should be a good day - not only a chance to hear from leading OCD experts but also plenty of time to meet other sufferers. Link to comment

We won't be having any presentations about BDD this year, although if there is sufficent interest we can look to inckude a presentation about BDD next year, or even host an event specific to BDD if we have enough interest in such an event.
